Likewise to Talk About Mixed Networks at Upcoming Conferences

Likewise to Talk About Mixed Networks at Upcoming Conferences

Bellevue, Wash. (PRWEB) September 16, 2010

Gerald Carter, director of engineering for Likewise, will bring his expertise on managing and securing mixed networks to two technical conferences this Fall -- presenting "Scaling Likewise-CIFS Beyond 50K Concurrent Connections on a Single Node" at the Storage Developer Conference (SDC) (http://www.snia.org/events/storage-developer2010/agenda2010/abstracts#scale_cifs), and "Linux Multi-tenant File Servers using Likewise-CIFS" at the Linux Plumber's Conference (LPC) (http://www.linuxplumbersconf.org/2010/ocw/proposals/501).

Carter is Likewise's project lead for Likewise Open, and was a member of the Samba core development team for more than a decade. Carter has been developing, writing about, and teaching on open source storage topics since the late 90's -- and has spoken at events such as OSCON, SambaXP, USENIX LISA, among many others. He is the author of "LDAP System Administration" and co-author of "Using Samba" for O'Reilly Publishing.

SDC is the SNIA Technical Council's conference for the technical community working on storage architecture. At SDC, which will be held September 20 through 23 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Santa Clara, Calif., Carter will present "Scaling Likewise-CIFS Beyond 50K Concurrent Connections on a Single Node." Attendees will learn about achieving high levels of scalability for SMB/CIFS file servers using the Likewise CIFS file server. Carter will show how Likewise CIFS has been able to handle more than 50,000 simultaneous client connections on a single four-way SMP system configured with only 8GB of RAM.

The LPC is the annual gathering of developers working on the Linux kernel, libraries, and utilities vital to Linux. Held in Cambridge, Mass. from November 3 through 5, Carter will present on "Linux Multi-tenant File Servers using Likewise-CIFS." Carter will explain how the Likewise CIFS architecture allows Linux hosts to work concurrently with multiple, disparate Microsoft Active Directory domains.

(PRWEB) July 4, 2003

William Plante from Symantec and Karan Bavandi from Optimal Access to be featured on this week’s Let’s Talk Computers ®

NASHVILLE, TN Guests from Symantec and Optimal Access will appear on radio talk show "Let's Talk Computers". Symantec Corporation provides a broad range of content and network security software and appliance solutions to enterprises, individuals and service providers. Optimal Access Inc. brings you products that simplify information management tasks on any device. Let’s Talk Computers ranks as one of the longest-running computer radio talk shows, and airs on multiple radio stations weekly - and 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the Internet.

Counterfeit software is an enormous problem that poses a serious threat to consumers and small businesses-the primary victims. William Plante, director of Worldwide Security and Brand Protection for Symantec Corporation, (NASDAQ: SYMC) http://www.symantec.com, previously participated in the Federal Trade Commission's Spam Forum. In this particular discussion, he presents information regarding how consumers are victimized via pirated wares and credit card scams. He also explains the evolution of Spammers, from simple individuals that can be easily traced/identified, to today, when Spammer/pirate tactics include spoofed emails and even hijacked domain names to hide identities.

Many organizations manage and organize their information structures and even though the needs of organizations are different, their user demands have a common thread -- they want to have their desktops set up the way they want. Karan Bavandi, CEO and Co-Founder, discusses the Optimal Access, http://www.optimalaccess.com, product line that gives users the ability to set up their desktops to fit the way they work. Their signature program, Optimal Desktop, uses a MATRIX tabbed interface (Optimal Desktop portals) to give users easy access to hundreds of favorite destinations with 3 clicks or less. Optimal Desktop users can share hundreds of links organized in Optimal Desktop portals. Optimal Desktop's Mobile Edition lets users carry their desktops on removable USB drives.
