Paessler Announces PRTG Traffic Grapher 4.3
FUERTH, Germany (PRWEB) July 14, 2005
Paessler today announced the immediate availability of PRTG Traffic Grapher version 4.3, a Windows software solution that combines the most popular bandwidth monitoring requirements with new packet sniffing and Cisco Netflow capabilities.
PRTG Traffic Grapher monitors network and bandwidth usage, as well as other network parameters such as memory and CPU utilization. This information provides system administrators with live readings and periodical usage trends to optimize the efficiency, layout and setup of leased lines, routers, firewalls and servers as well as other network components.
Using the new packet sniffer, PRTG can inspect and account for all data packets travelling into, out of, and across a network. With the new Netflow support, the bandwidth usage on Cisco routers can be monitored right down to the finest details, even for high volume networks. ÂPRTG helps customers maximize the utilisation of their network bandwidth, said Dirk Paessler, CEO of Paessler GmbH. ÂBy adding a packet sniffer and Cisco router support, customers now have a complete set of data acquisition options to fully monitor their networkÂs usage.Â
American City Business Journals (ACBJ), one of the countryÂs largest publishers of metropolitan business newspapers, is one of the many companies to have successfully migrated to PRTG Traffic Grapher. Bryan Hart, network administrator for ACBJ, said that after experiencing significant problems with another product, his company began using PRTG Traffic Grapher to monitor its remote-market routers and core network equipment at corporate headquarters. PRTG allows ACBJ to monitor all aspects of their networkÂs bandwidth activities. The team can now be more proactive than reactive. ÂIt allows us to gather information that we simply didnÂt have access to before, said Hart. ÂWithout PRTG Traffic Grapher, we would have no history to help troubleshoot.Â
PRTG Traffic GrapherÂs monitoring results may be viewed either via a Windows interface or Web pages delivered by the internal web server. Sample reports and screenshots may be found at http://www.paessler.com/prtg. The software is available in both a Freeware edition (limited to monitoring only one network device and suitable for home users and SOHOs) and several different commercial editions, offering monitoring for multiple network devices and advanced features as required for larger businesses. The fully functional freeware version of PRTG Traffic Grapher may be downloaded free of charge at: http://www.paessler.com. The upgrades to the commercial editions for multi-port and multi-device monitoring are available starting at US $ 49.95.

IT Team at Assurity Financial Proactively Monitors and Analyzes Bandwidth Usage With Network Monitoring Solution PRTG Traffic Grapher From Paessler
Portland, OR. and FUERTH, Germany (PRWEB) October 10, 2006
Paessler AG, the network monitoring company, today announced that its PRTG Traffic Grapher has effectively helped the IT team at Assurity Financial Services view live readings of bandwidth usage, classify usage and graphically assess long-term usage trends on its network devices to maintain and improve mission-critical operations that drive efficiencies and productivity at the 200-person mortgage firm with five branches.
Assurity's employees work in a terminal-based environment that requires constant network management by the IT department to sustain an acceptable company-wide working environment, according to Ian Morgan, Assuritys IT manager. PRTG, Morgan said, has enabled the IT department to look at networking trends over time, which prevents Assurity from making hasty operational or networking decisions due to small spikes in activity, he said. Assurity's IT-related decisions are now both informed and purposeful.
For instance, several of Assuritys branches had been experiencing slow response times with their Internet connections, and the IT team used PRTG to accurately identify the branches that were saturating their circuits. The PRTG-supplied data, Morgan said, made it an easy sell to persuade management to invest in more bandwidth. Today, the branches' employees are operating at acceptable bandwidth levels.
Assuritys IT team has also used the Windows based PRTG to generate various historical bandwidth and performance statistics that have helped them be much more proactive in deciding when more bandwidth is needed, if user load requires a new CPU and if memory should be increased to support work load, Morgan said.
The Assurity IT department had no network monitoring solution in place prior to implementing Paesslers PRTG Traffic Grapher. The company had, at one point Morgan said, unsuccessfully attempted to use Windows Performance Monitor to manage its servers and was given a basic bandwidth monitoring tool from its ISP that possessed limited functionality and couldn't provide true granularity in its reporting.
Morgan selected PRTG Traffic Grapher -- after looking at other solutions -- because it appeared easy to customize and would allow him to incorporate their own counters into the monitoring solution, he said.
The Paessler network monitoring solution has given Assurity's IT department a tool to achieve network optimization, set up traffic monitoring and monitor both network uptime and network downtime.
Morgan and his colleagues, for example, display their monitoring findings in various easy-to-read graphs and tables, which they customize to meet their specific reporting needs.
Morgan added that installing and managing PRTG was easy and that the software co-exists well with the rest of his network.
The Assurity network consists of five branches that are connected by point-to-point T1s and share 3Mbit of Internet connectivity. The IT department operates in a robust networking environment that -- as an example -- includes NetFlow setup for all of its Cisco devices to filter based on IP range, as well as several custom definitions to recognize various traffic patterns such as RDP and TCP Printing.
The low cost and easy implementation makes the solution a simple one to recommend, Morgan said. We have purchased a product that does exactly what it says.
PRTG Traffic Grapher can be purchased through the Paessler online store starting at $ 99.95.

Paessler Announces PRTG Traffic Grapher 4.0: Customers Save Thousands of Dollars per Month in Monitoring Expenses
(PRWEB) October 1, 2004
Paessler today announced the immediate availability of PRTG Traffic Grapher version 4.0. PRTG Traffic Grapher monitors network and bandwidth usage and other network parameters such as memory and CPU utilization, providing system administrators with live readings and periodical usage trends to optimize the efficiency, layout and setup of leased lines, routers, firewalls, servers and other Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) enabled network components. Using PRTG Traffic Grapher, network administrators can predict when resources will be overloaded or are under-utilized and can make the decision to upgrade or downsize various elements of the system.
This new version of PRTG Traffic Grapher further reduces its CPU usage and disk space requirements by providing a new, fully multi-threaded monitoring engine and a new database system for the storage of historical data while at the same time being able to monitor more devices (hundreds or even thousands).
ÂCustomers are looking to get all the value they can from their networks, said Dirk Paessler, CEO of Paessler GmbH. ÂNetwork usage monitoring is an integral part of that process and no longer requires specialized know-how or hours of hands-on monitoring time, as proven by thousands of customers already using PRTG Traffic Grapher.Â
EMS Technical Services, LLC is focused on addressing the growing need for connectivity within public service agencies. EMSTS needed to monitor bandwidth over multiple T1 circuits and DSL circuits for a major national nurse call center. "Seeing" how much bandwidth was in use was essential to maximizing the number of connections possible.
ÂPRTG Traffic Grapher offers an excellent, simplistic but intuitive interface. In 0-60 seconds, we were up and recorded monitoring stats, said Anthony George, systems engineer at EMS Technical Services, LLC. ÂI would estimate it has saved our client over $ 1,000 per month. Without this software, it would have been highly possible they would have installed another T1.Â
ÂWe had a lot of difficulty in finding user-friendly software to monitor, alert and track bandwidth usage on routers, wireless bridges and servers, said David Mills, managing partner, EnterComp Consulting Group, LLP. ÂWe estimate that PRTG Traffic Grapher saves us two to three hours per day and approx $ 1,000 a month in monitoring costs.Â
PRTG Traffic GrapherÂs monitoring results may be viewed either via a Windows interface or Web pages delivered by the internal web server. Sample reports and screenshots can be found at http://www.paessler.com/prtg. Included with the installer is Paessler SNMP Helper which drastically eases accessing system readings on Windows 2000/XP/2003 systems via SNMP which usually is very complicated.
PRTG Traffic Grapher is available in both a Freeware edition (limited to monitoring only one network device and suitable for home users and SOHOs) and several commercial editions offering monitoring for multiple network devices and advanced features needed for larger businesses.
PRTG Traffic Grapher runs as a service on Windows 2000/XP/2003 for maximum reliability and works with most network devices that support SNMP. It was tested with various routers and switches from companies including Cisco, HP, 3Com, Linksys, DLink, as well as with various other SNMP enabled devices (e.g. computers running Windows or network printers).
The fully functional freeware version of PRTG Traffic Grapher can be downloaded free of charge at: http://www.paessler.com. The upgrades to the commercial editions for multi-port and multi-device monitoring are available starting at US $ 49.95.
