Writers of the Future Grand Prize Winner From 1992 Announces His First Novel, “Aquarius Rising: In the Tears of God” Is “Finalist” in the 2014 EPIC eBook Awards

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) November 14, 2013

Brian Burt, self proclaimed computer geek, application security engineer and grand prize winner of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future contest in 1992, announced that "Aquarius Rising: In the Tears of God," has been nominated for the 2014 Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition eBook (EPIC) awards in the science fiction category.

The story goes -- On an Earth ravaged by global warming, human-dolphin hybrids called Aquarians have built thriving reef colonies among the drowned cities of the coast. Now their world is under siege from an enemy whose invisible weapon leaves no survivors. Only Ocypode the Atavism -- half-human and half-Aquarian, marooned in the genetic limbo between species -- knows why. Ocypode and his comrades must face the perils of flight in the open ocean, a friend's betrayal, a killer storm, a lethal kelp forest haunted by mutant monsters and a fundamental challenge to their most cherished beliefs if they are to have any hope of saving Aquarius from destruction.

In a recent interview Brian explained how "Aquarius" came about. "I've been writing for about twenty years now, but exclusively short fiction until recently, when I finally worked out the nerve to try my first novel. I originally started writing while on an extended IT consulting gig in Dublin, Ireland. Ireland could inspire anyone to get creative, I think: beautiful scenery, rich history, a sense of mystery and magic that emanates from the place and seeps into the visitor. It certainly inspired me!"

"Aquarius Rising: In the Tears of God," is available form Double Dragon Publishing, a Canadian group formed in 2000 that generally publish science-fiction, fantasy, horror and paranormal romance but are not limited to these genres.

Brian won the grand prize award back in 1992 for his short story "The Last Indian War" and was published in the "L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume VIII." He went on to publish short stories "Climbing Jacob's Ladder," "Soul or Elcipse," "Phantom Pain" and "The Brilliant Blood of Souls."

As it is free-to-enter, L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future, now in its 31st year, enjoys amazing success with thousands of entrants yearly. Created by best-selling author L. Ron Hubbard, the contest has to date launched the careers of 12 New York Times bestselling authors: Jo Beverley, Tobias Buckell, David Farland aka Dave Wolverton (with NYT bestsellers under both names, Nancy Farmer, Eric Flint, Karen Joy Fowler, Tim Myers, Patrick Rothfuss, Lisa Smedman, Dean Wesley Smith, Elizabeth Wein and Sean Williams.

Yamaha DGX-650 Portable Digital Grand: Classic, Acoustic Touch and Tone with Tech Forward Learning and Playing Features

Buena Park, CA (PRWEB) July 16, 2013

Yamaha introduced its new DGX-650, a Portable Grand digital piano that is ideal for piano students and hobbyists of all ages. This entertaining alternative to an acoustic upright piano offers several features that make learning and playing piano more fun than ever, including upgraded piano sound and CD-quality audio recording and playback, as well as the ability to play chords with a single keystroke and interactive software that helps players quickly learn songs of their favorite artists from many genres. It includes a stand and a sustain footswitch, and is available in two attractive finishes: black with rosewood side panels or spotlight white.

The DGX-650 has category-leading touch and tone with PureCF sampling, which integrates the authentic sounds from the critically acclaimed nine-foot Yamaha CFIIIS Grand Piano into this powerful portable keyboard. Yamahas Graded Hammer Standard action provides the natural touch response of a full-size grand piano -- the lower keys are heavier and the higher keys become gradually lighter through the different registers. Extra-large, front-facing speakers provide a full and rich room-filling presence.

The DGX-650 is an ensemble digital piano that is ready to be enjoyed by a wide range of aspiring pianists, from those looking to learn and grow their musical abilities to those who may want the experience of playing with a band, said Dane Madsen, Yamaha Digital Piano Marketing Manager. Players of all abilities will appreciate the comprehensive learning features, great sound and connectivity that make it possible to easily share performances with friends and relatives.

The DGX-650s XG song file compatibility and optional You Are the Artist series songbooks allow players to learn and play along with recordings of their favorite songs made popular by artists like Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Adele, Johnny Cash and more. With this special collection of piano songbooks and play-along recordings, piano music can be experienced in several ways. The piano part of a song can be played on the DGX-650s keyboard while XG song files play all of the backing band parts. Songs can be slowed down to allow players to practice at a comfortable tempo before speeding up when theyre ready. Players can even practice one hand while the DGX-650 plays the other. You Are the Artist series songbooks and XG song files can be purchased at or any authorized Hal Leonard music retailer.

Sharing music is now easier than ever with new USB audio recording capabilities. CD-quality audio recordings of performances can be loaded onto computer and emailed to a friend, posted as a video on YouTube or simply transferred to an iPod.

The DGX-650 has many key features that intuitively assist beginners and novices in expressing themselves musically. Smart Chord mode enables major and minor chords to be played with just one key and is suitable for a variety of genres. For example, when playing a jazz song, players can automatically create complex 7th and 9th chords. When playing pop music, simpler three-note chords can be created. With Smart Chord, these instant four and five-note harmonies are now possible with a single finger.

A stereo 3.5mm AUX line input enables external audio devices to take advantage of the DGX-650 speaker system and offers another way aspiring artists can play along with their favorite songs stored on iPods, CD players or computers.

Pump Express Aids Ellis Island in Post-Sandy Recovery, Putting Historic Site On Point for Grand Re-Opening, Summer 2013

Wallington, NJ (PRWEB) May 31, 2013

Pump Express Services techs replaced an antiquated sewage ejector pump system that has served Ellis Island for the last 30 years with a pair of state-of-the-art 900-pound BJM shedder pumps. The new BJM shredder pump system will eliminate the chronic clogging issues that had been hampering the old sewage ejector system and bring the historic island into the 21st century, continuing to serve more than 100,000 people each year.

Ellis Island, the first stop for millions of immigrants who arrived in the United States via New York Harbor between 1892 and 1954, incurred extensive damage during Hurricane Sandy and has been closed to visitors since last November. Pump Express Sales Manager Fred Hettinger, says that the islands sewage ejector system was in need of an overhaul long before that.

We were called there four times over the last two years in response to high water alarms, clogging and ultimately a failed pump. They had a two pump system and when one pump failed the system ran on the other. Then two months ago that pump failed and they had nothing.

Left with only minimal sewage disposal, and faced with a grand reopening to the public targeted for Summer 2013, the islands maintenance engineers reached out to Pump Express Services.

We submitted a proposal to replace the old pump system with a pair of 15 hp BJM shredders. The job would include replacing two 20-foot sections of steel pipe, along with discharge and base elbows, installing a new, more efficient rail system and resurfacing the base of the sewage pit. Earlier this month we started the job.

The old rail system required four techs and an entire day to service a clog. A man had to physically descend into the 30-foot pit to detach and later reattach the pump. The new system we installed will take two techs about four hours to service. Thats half the manpower in half the time. This is a service we offer in connection with this type of system and can retrofit to any pump system to ease future maintenance.

Theres still no electricity on the island and all power is generated so its not an ideal work site but the new, improved system, which will service the entire island including at least three administrative/exhibition buildings, was completed within two weeks, putting the island on track for this summers reopening to the public.

Pump Express Services is the Service Division of Pump Express, one the the largest stocking distributors of commercial and industrial pumping equipment in the Northeast. For more information about Pump Express Services or to schedule service call us at 1-800-620-7331.

Ghanaian Tech Startup Garners Grand Prize in Global Startup Open Competition

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) November 12, 2012

Dropifis web messaging platform that seeks to supersede the traditional contact us form has earned the Ghanaian tech startup the grand prize of 2012 Startup Open, a competition for startups with high-growth potential featured as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2012. Dropifi was selected today out of 50 companies announced last month as the GEW 50, the best and brightest new startups around the globe.

Each year, thousands of new startups come to life through their experiences in Global Entrepreneurship Week which officially starts today in 130 countries, said Jonathan Ortmans, president of Global Entrepreneurship Week. By winning the Startup Open, Dropifi is at the top of that list and has a very promising future.

Dropifi traces its beginnings back to a Startup Weekend event in Accra, Ghana during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011. It replaces contact us buttons with a smart widget that allows companies to better analyze and organize incoming messages. The widget allows companies to learn more about the people sending the message and whether the messages content trends positive or negative. This gives companies critical insight to respond more effectively to existing and potential customers.

As the grand prize winners, Dropifis co-founder, David Osei, receives an all-expenses-paid trip to Rio de Janeiro to serve as an official delegate to one of the worlds largest startup community gatherings, the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in March 2013. In addition to the trip, Dropifi will be featured in a Kauffman Foundation animated sketchbook video.

Also announced today were four winners of the mentorship experience prize. Each of these winners will receive one year of mentoring from successful entrepreneurs, including Redbox founding member Michael DeLazzer, courtesy of the Entrepreneurs' Organization. They are:

Living – The Home Technology People complete their state of the art Notting Hill project to great acclaim and a seal of approval from Kevin McCloud’s Grand Design Program

(PRWEB UK) 22 October 2012

Paul Clarke Living's Technical Director has been extremely busy of late. Living have launched several industry firsts with their unique minimalist technology designs and has been very involved with the finishing touches to their latest project completion in Notting Hill, which also happens to be featuring on the hit Channel 4 program Grand Designs 24th October 2012.

This wonderful and exciting project started for Living back in 2011. As all projects tend to start, a complete design was required but with the added requirement that Living do away with the proposed Building Management System, to be replaced with their own integrated solution, fully monitored and controlled from the Apple iPads to be installed. In addition almost every item in the home was also to be monitored and controlled including, Home Automation, Lighting, Audio/Visual, Home Cinema, Heating, Cooling, Blinds and the extremely popular Smart Glass window system. To say that this property has state of the art Home Automation is an understatement indeed.

What really makes this project and installation unique is the approach Living have taken with their minimalist technology design. Living have long been extoling the virtues of such an approach to home technology, shunning conventional wisdom that all walls must have huge touch screens, room stats, Audio/Visual controls or worse still all of the above. The result is this modern yet homely property that anyone can control from the moment they walk in. Apple may have coined the phrase you already know how to use it but Living Home Technology have mastered the art.

The Eden Roc is Grand New Crime-Fighting Adventure

Magalia, CA (PRWEB) September 19, 2012

The Garden of Eden had its snake: it preyed upon the weakness of temptation. Ancient Arabic mythology had its Roca gigantic bird of prey. The Garden of Eden we call Puerto Rico is now visited by the Eden Roca monster of greed and perversion that is preying upon children. C. Edward Samuels lets his hero Keith Roberts group enter the world of young slave prostitutes and the pornography cartels who feed on them.

As despicable, appalling, abysmal, and mind-numbing as it is, children are abducted forcefully off the street every day. They are enticed into capture, sold by parents, traded, won in poker games. There is no end to the practice or the methodology used in procuring juvenile slaves. The vast majority are forced into prostitution. They are, more often than not, injected with habit-forming narcotics to ensure their cooperation. The perpetrators of this abomination are who Keith Robert & Co. is chasing down. The masters and operators of this vast and deadly empire have made the jewel-like beauty of the Caribbean Islands their wretched playground. In paradise, the ballet of violence is danced and Keith Robert must become the dance master to call down the curtains of this vile cancer.

Written in a powerfully passionate text, Keith narrates this tale like the career law enforcement officer that the author was in real life. There is no lack of action, a heroic kind that mows down bad guys with great righteousness and anger. So, too, will the reader be convinced of the necessity of Samuels realistic rhetoric and action oriented approach. The Eden Roc is a grand crime-fighting adventure with compelling actualism graphically depicted.

Roadrunner Shuttle Shows Growth with Grand Opening of New Facility Housing Propane Autogas Vehicles

Camarillo, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2012

Celebrating both a new contract and a state-of-the-art facility, Roadrunner Shuttle and Limousine Service held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Camarillo, Calif., to highlight shuttle vans and buses fueled by clean, economical and domestic propane autogas today. The event, entitled Moving Forward with Sustainability in Ventura County, offered a facility tour aboard propane autogas shuttles, which account for 20 percent of Roadrunners fleet, and two alternative fuel vehicles on display.

Our business has grown with propane autogas, said Charles Sandlin, operations manager for Roadrunner Shuttle. The ROUSH CleanTech technology is reliable, the vehicles run exceptionally clean, and, most importantly, our reduced fuel and maintenance costs have allowed us to expand our services to customers.

Recently awarded a contract by the Ventura County Transportation Commission to provide VISTA intercity bus service, Roadrunner will use the new facility for that operation and for storage of their propane autogas vehicle fleet.

When we purchased our first four propane autogas shuttle vans over a year ago, we anticipated a positive return, said Sandlin. Since then weve added an additional 13 shuttle vans and two shuttle buses that are currently saving the company nearly $ 1,500 per vehicle per month. Roadrunner shuttles passengers in ROUSH CleanTech Ford E-250 vans and 20-passenger Ford E-450 buses equipped with wheelchair-accessible slots.

For convenience and to further reduce fuel costs, Roadrunner Shuttle added a 2,000-gallon fueling facility near the new contract bus yard. The infrastructure for propane autogas is less expensive than any other alternative fuel, and with thousands of stations across the nation, propane autogas boasts the largest public refueling infrastructure of all alternative fuel options.

In addition to saving money, each shuttle van saves more than 37,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Propane autogas is a low carbon fuel that reduces greenhouse gases by up to 25 percent, carbon monoxide by up to 60 percent, nitrogen oxide by 20 percent and virtually eliminates particulate matter when compared to conventional fuels. In addition, non-toxic propane does not harm soil or groundwater.

At ROUSH CleanTech, we are dedicated to developing the most innovative and reliable alternative fuel products, while providing our customers the means to attain a cleaner emissions profile and a positive return on investment, said Todd Mouw, vice president of sales and marketing for ROUSH CleanTech. We are excited about Roadrunner Shuttles continued growth by running clean and cost-efficient on propane autogas, and we look forward to growing a mutually beneficial relationship in the years to come.

According to Sandlin, Roadrunner Shuttle plans to fuel 100 percent of its fleet on alternative energy in order to increase resourcefulness and reduce its carbon footprint.
