Pigeon Point Systems™ Announces the Introduction of the Next Generation of Its Successful IPM Sentry™ Shelf Management Mezzanine (ShMM) Product Line

Scotts Valley, CA (PRWEB) March 18, 2005

Pigeon Point Systems™, the leading supplier of shelf and board management solutions for AdvancedTCA®, announces the introduction of the next generation of its successful IPM Sentry™ Shelf Management Mezzanine (ShMM) product line. Known as the IPM Sentry ShMM-500, it offers a dramatic performance boost over the market-leading ShMM-300 to provide faster shelf and board start-up and event processing, more responsive interaction with external system managers and the capacity to host layered applications.

The ShMM-500 is a member of Pigeon Point Systems’ IPM Sentry family of hardware and software products that enable cost-effective, interoperable management of open modular platforms based on the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) standard. Using IPM Sentry components, developers of AdvancedTCA and CompactPCI® products can quickly and efficiently incorporate compliant, competitive and interoperable management solutions. More than forty-five companies around the world, including Motorola and Sun Microsystems, are already taking advantage of IPM Sentry components at the shelf level, board level or both.

Using the new MIPS-32 based AMD “Alchemy” Au1550 System-on-a-Chip (SOC), the ShMM-500 boasts a 7x CPU speed enhancement, 4x SDRAM capacity boost and 2x Flash capacity increase, compared to the ShMM-300. In addition, the ShMM-500 includes hardware and firmware support for reliable remote upgrades to its firmware. When this feature is configured, if a firmware upgrade attempt fails, hardware automatically falls back to a redundant copy of the firmware.

The ShMM-500, with its SO-DIMM form-factor, is fully backward-compatible with the ShMM-300 and can be used as a drop-in replacement in existing systems. The ShMM-500’s small size and low power dissipation of less than 5 Watts means that it can be mounted in a number of locations and orientations within a subrack.

“Sun is taking an aggressive approach in developing and deploying an advanced ATCA blade server offering, leveraging our successful cPCI and cPSB Netra products,” said Raju Penumatcha, vice president of Netra Systems and Networking (NSN), Sun Microsystems. “Pigeon Point Systems’ industry-leading ShMM technology ensures that we can deliver widely used, compliant and interoperability-tested shelf management facilities. The dramatically increased capacity of the ShMM-500 allows it to host our standards-based Managed Object Hierarchy software, creating a redundant, highly reliable ATCA system management architecture that reduces operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) development costs and time to market.”

“The introduction of this higher performance shelf manager demonstrates the benefits of having an ecosystem of innovative companies collaborating around industry standards such as AdvancedTCA,” said John Fryer, director of marketing, Embedded Communications Computing Group, Motorola. “These companies provide key building blocks for our Application-Enabling Platforms that give leading telecom equipment manufacturers faster time-to-market, lower cost and investment protection for their next-generation products.”

For new designs, the ShMM-500 enables additional features such as Ethernet connections to both redundant AdvancedTCA base hub boards in a shelf, resulting in better availability for the shelf manager function. Like all the IPM Sentry ShMM products, the ShMM-500 is also available in an IPM Sentry Shelf Management Starter Kit to help OEMs integrate ShMM technology into their own shelves. The Starter Kit includes schematics, bench-top hardware and complete product support to build ShMM-500-based AdvancedTCA Shelf Managers to suit specific applications and shelf designs.

OEM 1,000-unit pricing for the ShMM-500 is $ 350. The Starter Kit is priced at $ 5,000. Production deliveries of the ShMM-500 are scheduled for late Q1, 2005.

Power Generation Equipment Upgrades by Turbine Technology Services Contribute to Improved Performance

Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) September 17, 2013

Turbine Technology Services Corporation (TTS), a full-service gas turbine engineering services firm based in Orlando, Florida is playing a critical role in the upgrade of power generation equipment worldwide by modernizing control systems’ hardware and software to improve the operational performance of gas turbines.

It has been almost 30 years since microprocessor-based control systems were introduced in the power generation industry and—as is typical with electronics—the time to effective obsolescence of these systems has been relatively short. Advances in reliability, capability, flexibility and in the ease of use have been significant over this period.

Case in point, much of the turbine control system HMI and operator interface equipment that was installed in the 90’s and early 2000’s have become obsolete by current industry standards, prompting gas turbine operators to seek upgrade/migration advice from trusted global power engineering providers such as TTS.

In response to these industry challenges, TTS now offers GE gas turbine operators complete HMI upgrade solutions to bring these operator interface systems up to current standards.

The TTS solution is based on Industrial Turbine Service’s Turbine Monitoring System (TMOS) software, an established industry product which has been successfully applied around the world in the replacement of the original GE (I) and (HMI) product line.

These HMI upgrades from TTS provide an improved graphical interface that retains the features of the original operator interface product while adding powerful new capabilities and features including improved unit data acquisition, storage and analysis. These upgrades also provide innovative solutions to the system architecture and communication limitations imposed by the original systems.

“Aging, obsolete equipment increases the risk of failure, potentially leaving turbine operators unable to run or monitor their units,” said Pat Begley, VP of Sales for Europe, the Middle East and Asia at TTS. “HMI upgrades are a very cost effective solution for this particular problem.”

Over the years, TTS has performed numerous HMI upgrades for power generation customers, giving the company a unique insight and experience to address the needs of the industry—from system design and network architecture to hardware installation.

HMI upgrades from TTS are featured in September’s edition of Power Magazine and can be downloaded following this link: http://www.powermag.com/considerations-when-upgrading-gas-turbine-hmis/.

Cayman Enterprise City Reaches Out to Caymans Next Generation of Innovators

(PRWEB) July 22, 2013

Cayman Enterprise City (CEC), Caymans hi tech Special Economic Zone has rewarded the two young winners of The Coolest Internship in Cayman video contest with summer internships in the zone. During the month of June contestants in the Cayman Islands between the ages of 15 and 25 were asked to submit a short video making their case for the chance to work in the zone where 65 companies are now operating international businesses. 20-year-old Neith Rheingold, a second year student at the University of Westminster in London, convinced the judges that the internship is tailor-made for him.

Im hardworking, motivated and I really want the opportunity to work at CEC because it fits right into my career choices, business management and international business, says the young Caymanian. I can learn a lot from the people at Cayman Enterprise City - get good advice, gain knowledge and do some networking. I hope to take this knowledge back to school with me.

Cayman Enterprise City CEO Charlie Kirkconnell says the video contest was a good way to engage Caymans younger generation with the high tech tools they use on a daily basis, and get them thinking about the growing opportunities CEC will offer in the coming years. We have made a commitment to improve the future of young Caymanians by attracting interesting new technology-based industries to these islands, he says. The enthusiasm and creativity shown through the video contest is very exciting and encouraging, it shows us that our kids want to be involved.

16-year-old Thalia Ramos, a local high school student, also won an internship with a creative video that included animation and music. Neith and Thalia will learn the inner workings of the special economic zone by shadowing CECs teams from various departments; marketing, business development and client services. Theyll learn how to market the Cayman Islands internationally, work on lead generation projects and plan overseas business development trips and more. The interns will also be involved in Skype calls with potential clients around the world and participate in online presentations, plus face-to-face meetings. Im very excited, says Neith Rheingold. Im pretty sure Im gonna love it and will want to come back next summer.

The interns will also learn about the logistics involved in helping a company set up in the zone, from the licensing process to the relocation of employees. Clients need assistance with local health insurance, pension plans, banking, service providers, accommodation, cars, shipping, movers and more. Neith and Thalia will also meet with some of the zone companies to learn about their businesses and industries, and experience first hand the growing tech hub at CEC.

Martin Print Launch The Next Generation of Business Cards for the Australian Small Business Owner

North Perth, Western Australia (PRWEB) May 08, 2013

The future is digital. The traditional Business Card is dead. Or is it?

New NFC Business Cards have just been launched this week from Martin Print, and promise to deliver an extra thrilling dimension to the stunning unique designs of a physical Business Card. In fact, it could be the biggest and most radical development in Business Card design in the last four centuries.

For quite a while now, some experts have been predicting the demise of the humble Business Card, as it was widely assumed that business owners in the digital age would eventually turn their interest towards virtual electronic alternatives. But the enduring appeal of the traditional Business Card continues to confound the critics, even after 400 years of tireless duty!

It would seem that the overwhelming majority of business owners still prefer the reassuringly physical ritual of passing on a genuine slice of vivid design, instead of the cold and lifeless digital equivalents.

But what if an entrepreneur could have the best of both worlds? A stunningly designed Business Card in a traditional style, but crammed full of incredible hidden digital features which can be unlocked with just one quick tap from a Smartphone?

The new NFC (Near Field Communication) Cards are embedded with a tiny, fully customisable microchip which opens up a whole new world of opportunities to explore on the Smartphone screen. Recipients simply touch the card with their phone to unlock the cool digital features and functionality.

Martin Print has been serving the Australian SMB sector for over ten years with premium quality printing and professional graphic design services.

Martin Russell, the founder and driving force behind the business, believes that the arrival of NFC Cards heralds a new chapter in passing on and sharing all your vital contact information and marketing content.

Your custom-designed NFC Cards will perform practically any function that you ask it to, explains Russell.

The real beauty of these Next Generation Business Cards is that you are in full control of the microchip. You have the option to quickly change the features and functions of each card as often as you like, via a simple-to-use Smartphone App. So you can effectively update your remaining stock of Business Cards with new digital content whenever a new opportunity arises!

NFC Cards could potentially be configured so that recipients are directed straight to a business website, Social Media page, a special NFC mini-site, or indeed any relevant online content at all.

Just one tap of the Card with an NFC-enabled Smartphone could also load up an App, play music or video content, bring up a Map showing the location of a business with handy directions, or even transfer a business owner's crucial details directly into the contacts list of the recipients Smartphone!

The possibilities are endless, says Russell. You could even configure the Card so that it places an immediate call or sets up an instant SMS to your Business!

The Martin Print team are currently in the process of developing a new free NFC Smartphone App which will make the process of updating Business Card content simple and fun.

So, is the traditional Business Card really dead? Of course not. The ever-popular format looks set to endure for at least another 400 years.

But the arrival of this bold new generation of Business Cards ensures that those unique designs and styles will be now be packed with more digital power and genuine functionality than ever before

Next Generation Sequencing Market NGS – Pre-Sequencing, Cloud Computing & NGS Bioinformatics Solutions are Growth Opportunities Says New Research Report at ReportsnReport

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) July 03, 2013

The next generation sequencing market is rapidly evolving with a large number of developments taking place to increase accuracy and speed, and reduce costs of sequencing. It is the fastest-growing and most lucrative segment in the genomics space with an estimated growth of 16.3%. The global NGS market was valued at $ 1.3 billion in 2012 and is poised to reach $ 2.7 billion by 2017. By supporting genomics research, various government bodies like NHGRI (National Human Genome Research Institute, U.S.) and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC, U.K.) are increasing the adoption of high-throughput sequencing platforms.

The growth of the overall next generation sequencing (NGS) market (http://www.reportsnreports.com/reports/257153-next-generation-sequencing-ngs-market-platforms-illumina-hiseq-miseq-life-technologies-ion-proton-pgm-454-roche-bioinformatics-rna-seq-chip-seq-pyrosequencing-sbs-smrt-diagnostics-personalized-medicine-global-forecast-to-2017.html) is driven by continuous innovations and developments in the market aimed at higher throughput, increased accuracy, and affordable costs. However, factors such as high reliability on grants and funding from the government, and a decrease in capital expenditure from academic institutions are hindering the growth of the market. In addition, the interpretation of big data generated by sequencers and the subsequent storage and management of the analyzed data is still a challenge. Owing to the complexity of NGS technologies and data, standardization of the overall NGS workflow presents an unmet need. The opportunities for the growth of this market include developments in the pre-sequencing, cloud computing, and NGS bioinformatics solutions.

The NGS platforms market was dominated by Illumina in 2012, which accounted for the largest market share of 56%. Other companies with commercial platforms include Life Technologies (U.S.), 454 Roche (U.S.), and Pacific Biosciences (U.S.). The recently introduced Bench-top and NGS platforms will drive the market. Based on steps in the NGS workflow, the overall NGS market has three major segments, namely, pre-sequencing, NGS platforms and services, and NGS data analysis, storage and management.

The raw sequencing data generated by todays sequencers does not reflect on any meaningful information in itself. Also, open source tools for analyzing NGS data require adequate bioinformatics training. These factors open up huge opportunities for commercial NGS bioinformatics software, workbenches, and services, whose market is currently fragmented and has a relatively smaller size. Whole genome sequencing, targeted re-sequencing, de novo sequencing, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and methyl-Seq are the major applications that use NGS data analysis tools and services. Key players like CLC bio (Denmark), Biomatters (New Zealand), Partek (U.S.), Genomatix (Germany), Knome (U.S.), and DNASTAR (U.S.) dominate this market space.

Next generation sequencing is set to revolutionize applied markets like diagnostics, drug discovery, biomarker discovery, personalized medicine, and agriculture and animals research. Research institutes and government bodies contribute the highest to the end-user market of NGS; however, the adoption rate in hospitals will increase in the near future due to cost effectiveness, high throughput, and sensitivity.

The NGS market will witness a whole new generation of sequencing platforms based on nanapore sequencing technology and fully integrated instruments that could perform all the NGS workflow steps.

Scope of the Report

This research report categorizes and analyzes the global NGS market on the basis of steps in the NGS workflow and NGS applications. These markets are further divided into segments and sub-segments, to provide exhaustive value analysis for the years 2010, 2011, 2012, and forecast to 2017. Each market is comprehensively analyzed at a granular level by geography (North America, Europe, Asia, and Rest of the World) to provide in-depth information on the global scenario.

New Integrated Chip Enables Next Generation of DAB Enabled Digital Audio Products

London, UK (PRWEB) August 31, 2006

Frontier Silicon, the market leader in semiconductor solutions for mobile TV and digital radio, has launched a new advanced and highly integrated system-on-chip IC, which will enable the next generation of DAB digital radio-based products. The Chorus 2 FS1020 chip is a new programmable DAB baseband receiver providing significant space, cost and power savings on a typical radio or mobile handheld devices. The chip is now in mass production and products using the chip will appear in the market early 2007.

The key benefit of the new improved Chorus 2 IC is the level of integration -- providing up to 40 percent space savings on the board real-estate and 35 percent cost savings on the system bill-of-material. Chorus 2 has 640Kbytes of integrated memory, enabling it to run value added features without requiring external memory. The advanced chip architecture also provides up to 50 percent power consumption savings compared to other integrated DAB baseband receivers currently available.

The significant increase in processing power available on the chip allows manufacturers to create new convergence products at lower cost than is possible at present. Typical of the new products that will be enabled with Chorus 2 are DAB radios merged with other audio functionality -- such as combined DAB/ FM/ MP3/ WMA/ AAC digital music players, DAB radios with USB 2.0 OTG connectivity for high speed file transfer and firmware upgrade, Internet radios, digital music servers and jukeboxes, and multimedia-enhanced PDAs.

Chorus 2 will supersede the successful Chorus processor found in over 80 percent of DAB digital radios on the market. The new baseband receiver covers a number of physical layer standards, particularly those utilizing COFDM modulation. The IC uses a Meta122 CPU with extensive DSP (digital signal processor) capabilities, which is based on a multi-threaded architecture capable of executing multiple DSP tasks on the same core without cross-task interference.

Many of the components which were previously outside the chip are now incorporated on-chip, including a switched mode power supply which eliminates the need for external regulators, power-on-reset, digital clock (DCXO) and integrated memory to provide full ensemble 1.8Mbps decoding in a Eureka-147 DAB receiver. The use of a hardware-assisted DSP architecture on the Chorus 2 chip ensures that the DSP has additional capacity to run other embedded applications such as software FM, audio decoders, digital rights management, graphics and audio equalisers.

Unique to Chorus 2 is the integration of peripheral features on-chip, such as the USB 2.0 OTG interface, support for TFT and LCD displays, ATA/ATAPI interface for hard-disk storage, and NAND Flash, memory stick and SD interfaces.

Chorus 2 is available now in a package with small footprint of just 13mm(l) x 13mm(w) x 1.7mm(h).
