Hauppauge Releases Five TV/PVR cards for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

London, England (PRWEB) October 27, 2004

Hauppauge Digital, the world's leading developer and manufacturer of TV cards for PCs, has introduced a range of TV receivers certified for the Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005. The range will be available to resellers and system builders creating exciting new platforms based on MCE 2005.

Hauppauge is offering resellers special OEM 3-packs of the PVR-150. "MCE 2005 is going to be big news in the run up to Christmas, particularly for system builders and resellers prepared to offer ready-made packages. The addition of a Hauppauge TV card completes the MCE 2005 experience with TV and Recording on the desktop," said Yehia Oweiss, Managing Director of Hauppauge Digital.

Hauppauge has already been chosen to supply TV cards to many leading PC makers as part of their Media Center 2005 offerings, including HP, Fujitsu, FIC, Elonex, Evesham, Iqon, Quantum, and Medion. In addition, Hauppauge has technology partnerships with AMD, Intel and Scan to develop innovative form factor PCs to exploit the potential of MCE 2005.

The five new products from Hauppauge are:-

WinTV PVR-150 MCE    PCI analogue with MPEG-2 encoder

PCI board with analogue TV tuner plus FM radio receiver to allow viewing and recording of TV/ radio broadcasts. An on-board MPEG-2 encoder removes burden from PC's CPU to ensure smooth recording. Two WinTV-PVR-150’s can be installed in a Windows XP system at a time, bringing the ability to watch one channel while recording another channel. In addition, the WinTV-PVR-150 has audio/video inputs to connect to and record from set top boxes such as satellite receivers and cable TV boxes.

A low profile version of the PVR-150 is available for low profile chassis. It is hardware and software compatible with the full height WinTV-PVR-150MCE.

WinTV PVR-500MCE     PCI dual analogue tuners with MPEG-2 encoder

PCI board with dual TV tuners plus a single FM radio receiver to allow the watching or recording of two TV channels at a time. In addition, the WinTV-PVR-500MCE has two on board A/V connectors for audio/video inputs to connect to set top boxes such as satellite receivers and cable TV boxes.

WinTV PVR USB2 MCE    USB2.0 analogue tuner with MPEG-2 encoder

External USB 2.0 box with a single TV tuner plus hardware MPEG encoder. Designed for use in both laptop and desktop computers, the WinTV PVR USB2-MCE can be used as either the only TV tuner in a system running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, or can be added as a second TV tuner to any system running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. This would allow the background recording of one TV channel while another TV channel is being watching the screen.

WinTV PVR NOVA-T MCE    PCI digital Freeview tuner

PCI board with digital TV receiver for use with Freeview services in the UK. Allows for viewing and recording of Freeview programmes (which are broadcast in MPEG-2) as well as digital radio that is broadcast under Freeview (this is NOT DAB).

“Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is one of the most compelling home user experiences we have seen for PCs,” said Yehia Oweiss, Managing Director of Hauppauge Digital UK. “Our WinTV MCE products add television viewing, television recording and radio to the media experience that consumers have come to expect from their PCs. Now with Media Center Edition 2005, the PC has become the central point for all media in the home.”

“Hauppauge is a market leader with a history of delivering high-quality receiver products, and we’re thrilled with its broad support for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, ” said Paul Randle, Windows Client Product Manager of Microsoft Corp. “Hauppauge’s new products, introduced today, will deliver great solutions for the high-quality TV features of Media Center Edition 2005.”.

Drivers for the Hauppauge WinTV MCE range are Microsoft WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Lab) certified.

Daffodil Software Open Sources One$DB, Edition of Daffodil DB at

Gurgaon, India (PRWEB) January 20, 2005

Daffodil Software, a leading database technology company, today announced the Open Source release of One$ DB at ( The move to Open Source One$ DB, is driven by the fact that Open Source products are more acceptable and flexible, as they can be understood better in terms of strengths and limitations and can be customized to suit specific requirements without any fear of vendor locking. We also feel that Open Source products become more mature due to the continuous involvement of a diverse community.

One$ DB (, which was initially launched as a free database, is an effort to drive open source innovation around Java-based applications, which will in turn create new business opportunities in various areas such as embedded database applications, Java applications and web-based applications.

One$ DB is a version of Daffodil DB, a J2EE-certified, JDBC 3.0 and SQL-99 compliant Java database. It is available in both Network and Embedded editions and has been designed to handle complex computing environments that demand a robust, scalable and feature-rich RDBMS that can operate across platforms. Against convention, One$ DB does not put any restriction with regards to number of connections, CPU usage and total data storage.

One$ DB, being an offshoot of Daffodil DB, enjoys a high level of maturity and stability, two aspects that new open source products lack. Daffodil DB (with over 10,000 installations) has come of age and is ready for enterprise and mission-critical applications. Recently, Daffodil DB achieved compatibility with Compiere, a leading Open Source ERP+CRM package, which is highly demanding in terms of database requirements. This fact highlights for the first time, the ability of a Java database to compete with the best that the enterprise database market has to offer.

One$ DB's commitment to industry standards, coupled with the availability of unique features like PSM support, ready-to-use Network edition, MVCC, Advanced Security features and an integrated Import/Export tool is a big distinction from other players in the open arena. Apart from these enterprise-level features, community developers will have the added benefit of a Software Design Document, by which they can better understand the design and architecture of One$ DB. By ‘opening’ such a feature-rich database, Daffodil hopes to work closely with the Java and database community in strengthening the product further. Unlike other players in the Open Source database market, One$ DB is a zero cost software made available under an LGPL license, wherein the commercial deployment is also free. Apart from the free support through forums and live chat, Daffodil also offers optional & affordable commercial support for the product under its One$ Support program.

Expressing his viewpoint regarding the entry of big players and the subsequent competition in the Java database market, Yogesh Agarwal (CEO, Daffodil Software) commented: “With One$ DB going Open Source, we hope to add fuel to the already hot Java database market. One$ DB offers the community an embeddable database with an impressive set of capabilities and functions. Our attempt is to associate two growing movements; Java and Open Source, to the benefit of both the communities." Looking for a long-standing association with the community, he added, “Our mission is to look beyond opening the code; to work with the community in developing One$ DB as the most outstanding open source database.”

"Open Sourcing of One$ DB is yet another example of companies starting to appreciate the Open Source movement. By offering such a mature and feature-rich database, Daffodil has set an example for others to emulate. One$ DB's non-restrictive commercial license will attract SMBs and ISVs, as they can develop applications without additional start-up costs", said Mr. Ou Weiguo, CEO – Huidu Technology Co. Ltd. (China)

About Daffodil Software

Daffodil Software entered the open source arena with the successful open sourcing of its database replication tool Daffodil Replicator. Efforts are on to make One$ DB / Daffodil DB compatible with other major open source products, Compiere being the beginning.

CompAmerica Announces It Is Releasing Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-Bit Edition for Its Dual and Quad XEON Server Line

(PRWEB) May 28, 2005

CompAmerica ( has announced it is fully 64-Bit Windows Server Ready and will be shipping Windows 2003 Server/64-Bit Edition (Server/64) along with its Dual XEON/64 Systems and Dual Core Pentium 4 Workstation/Servers as of June 1, 2005.

"The driver availability problem solved for our Server line; we are starting with our newest Dual XL-7525 and XL-8500 Quad servers so that our SMB and Enterprise Clients can purchase Desktops, Laptops and Servers all equipped with 64 Bit Windows XP and 64 Bit Windows 2003 Server (2005 Server)," stated John Davis, Jr., CompAmerica's Chief Operating Officer. "We are days away from completing the Video and Network adapters for our Laptops and Desktops, and will be able to start taking on "Entirely 64 Bit" Network Orders. Our internal project code named: '8 to the power of 2' is now rolling out the goods."

CompAmerica began working on means to distribute its products with 64-bit Windows technology over ten months earlier, says Davis.

"We had the jump, and we've held the high ground. With 64-Bit Windows, we now have a major performance and efficiency advantage over 32-bit solutions and Open Source. We have tested Microsoft's new enhanced Office technology with our 64-Bit solutions, and we have seen absolutely no comparison from any other technology for the Office anywhere else on the planet. It's absolutely amazing!

"Of particular interest is that the extension of the Office into Internetworks and Sharepoint Portals, as well as the enhancement of them with Multimedia, Audio/Video Conferencing, and overall Collaboration, on this new 64 Bit Server Backbone, is so remarkably stable and unbelievably fast, that we wonder why we didn't do this two years ago," he says. "We are extremely pleased to see Intel and AMD embracing the 64-Bit Memory/Data/System bus, and the x/86 Enhancements that make '64-Bit' a possibility now. The new Dual Core version of the Intel Pentium 4 with EM64T technology, and its counterpart, dual core AMD 64 Processor, are important new innovations that will make 64-Bit Windows 'Rock'!"

An article about Intel's e8500 chipset is available:

CompAmerica's XL-7525 Servers are based on Dual Xeon 2.8 to 3.2+GHz CPUs, with 2MB Cache, and up to 8GB DDRam-2. The server is said to outperform any other dual Xeon server in it's league.

Its XL-8500 products are based on Quad Xeon MP 2.82-3.66GHZ CPUs, with 4MB or 8MB Cache, and the e8500 Intel chipset. This server is said by CompAmerica to be "the paragon of 4 Way plus Hyprthreading Xeon Servers, an awesome piece of equipment, perfect for corporate, government and web applications."

Both Servers incorporate EM64T Technology from Intel, DDR2-400 ECC Memory, and offer a wide range of expandable Peripherals, SCSI/SATA and RAID Storage, and a wide variety of configuration, management controls, security enhancements and rack / pedestal mounts.

CompAmerica also expects to start offering Dual and Quad "Opteron/64" (AMD's 64 Bit Server CPU) solutions within "weeks at most, in fact if we had large orders for the Opteron, we'd be offering it first - but most orders are focusing on the Xeon/64bit models for now..."

Prices for the XL-7525 start at $ 1,800.

CompAmerica is a leader in building and provisioning advanced PCs, Laptops and Servers with what it says is considerably better price performance, tech support and security than the leading competitors. "We have built our PCs to last, our Servers to survive and our Laptops to win. No where else can anyone make the claim that right now: 100% of all of the products we'd sold in the last 3 years are up and running with not a single unit in the repair cycle or needing special technical support at this time anywhere. At CompAmerica we can. And this, even though our products are somewhat lower price!" stated the company president.
