50 Years Old and Still Bounding Over the Counter: Klines Healthcare Practice Continues to Deliver Unmatched OTC Market Intelligence

Parsippany, NJ (PRWEB UK) 24 September 2013

With over half a century of market insights on the U.S. consumer healthcare market, Kline & Company expects that new paradigm shifts in regulations, retail, and technology will create new opportunities for medications to move along the Rx-to-OTC continuum and more growth prospects for the U.S. OTC market. Additionally, with the OTC medication market in the United States nearing $ 23 billion in 2012 alone and with the FDA - through its recent NSURE (Nonprescription Safe Use Regulatory Expansion) initiative - showing encouraging indications that it is becoming more receptive to allowing more Rx-to-OTC switches, the U.S. OTC market is fast returning to pre-recession health.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Kline’s distinguished Nonprescription Drugs USA report continues to provide the most comprehensive market intelligence expanding its longstanding OTC drugs industry know-how to include indispensable research on related topics including Natural OTCs, OTC Retailing, OTC Innovations, Impact of Recessions on the U.S. OTC Market, OTC Drugs: U.S. Competitor Cost Structures, OTC Consumer/Shopper Insights and a series of reports on Rx-to-OTC Switch.

In recent years, the U.S. OTC market has been hindered by significant product recalls by major players, with the resultant vacuum - abetted by recession-affected ever cost-conscious consumers - largely claimed by private-label alternatives. Laura Mahecha, industry manager at Kline’s Healthcare Practice, adds, “The impact and profound magnitude of ongoing economic uncertainty is borne out by more than half of respondents in a recent Kline survey disclosing that they’d changed how they purchased OTC drugs. Specifically, nearly a quarter of those surveyed choose private label OTC drugs whenever possible because of their perceived cost advantage.”

Despite the stronghold private-label products have on the market and the highly competitive nature of this market, there is still room for OTC brands to grow and prosper in the coming years with increased focus from major companies on innovations, new product launches and line extensions, and strategic marketing plans.

Currently, Rx-to-OTC switches continue to be a major force driving the OTC market as they increasingly involve large widely used products and drive demand by bringing ex-Rx users to the OTC market. Major Rx-to-OTC switches introduced since 1976 account for nearly $ 4,555 million in sales in 2012 and represent 32.8% of overall OTC sales (excluding home diagnostics, vitamins and minerals, and herbal products). The increased numbers of switch approvals by the FDA are expected to lead to future gains for the U.S. OTC market and could even create brand new, never-before-available-without-a-prescription categories.

The U.S. OTC market has evolved markedly, beginning with the FDA establishing an OTC review/Monograph system in the 1970s and the landmark Rx-to-OTC switch of hydrocortisone and its subsequent inclusion in OTC first-aid and anti-itch medications. The 1980s saw a recession fuelled spike in private-label OTC sales and the approval of ibuprofen as an OTC drug, in addition to the approval of many allergy, cough, and cold ingredients bringing brands like Nyquil, Benadryl, Triaminic, and Actifed to market.

There are challenges for OTC marketers including but not limited to private-label competition, retailer SKU rationalization, cost-conscious consumers, consolidated number of competitors, and increased scrutiny of manufacturing and quality assurance procedures. However, opportunities exist to see increased levels of growth over the next few years for the companies that have solid brands, good claims, strategic marketing, a steady stream of innovations and line extensions, and efficient and compliant processes.

Infocasts Debut Biomass Trade & Transport Summit Continues to Gain Steam

Woodland Hills, CA (PRWEB) July 10, 2012

Infocast, the leading event producer of networking and business intelligence events in the bio industry, is set to host its first Biomass Trade & Transport Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 16-18, 2012. The Summit provides an unprecedented opportunity for companies to meet and network with important industry professionals who will play major roles in creating the international biomass trade and transport infrastructures of the future.

European and Asian government initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have led to an increase in foreign demand of US export of biomass to serve as the substitution for coal. According to Wood Resources International, a leading forest industry consulting firm, more than 2 million tons of wood pellets were shipped in 2011, a 300% increase from 2008. Foreign demand for US export of wood pellets alone is projected to increase from approximately 10 million metric tons in 2009 to over 50 million by 2020.

Despite the lucrative opportunities in the biomass industry, there are challenges and obstacles to overcome, such as maintaining wood supply availability, port infrastructure improvements and maximizing logistical efficiency.

Summit Chairman Dr. William Strauss, President of FutureMetrics, and Joseph J. James, latest appointee to the Federal Biomass Advisory Committee and President of Agri-Tech Producers, LLC., are among the superb cast of speakers set to share industry insights, valuable strategies, latest trends and more in the main event. Other speakers include European utilities, US pellet and biomass producers, port and stevedoring representatives, shippers, rail, barge and trucking companies, supply chain players and various other key stakeholders.

In the pre-Summit workshop, Jonathan Rager, Principal at Poyry Management Consulting Inc., will discuss topics such as the viability of North America to supply a reliable, long-term flow of biomass, and what infrastructures are required for efficient biomass logistics in a supply chain. The workshop will incorporate detailed analyses of wood fiber supply and prices, profiles of suppliers, competition from alternative uses and transport restraints.

For more information on the event, to REGISTER, or to join as a sponsor or a partner for the Biomass Trade & Transport Summit, visit or call Alice Barsoomian at 818-888-4445 x19.

Fastrax Enhances the Worlds Smallest GPS Antenna Module, Continues GNSS Module Portfolio Optimization

Helsinki, Finland (PRWEB UK) 13 June 2012

Fastrax Ltd., a pioneering developer of high performance GNSS receivers and Software GNSS solutions for location-aware devices, today introduced the Fastrax UC530 - a new edition of the worlds smallest OEM GPS receiver with an integrated chip antenna. The module features the same ultra small form factor as the widely popular Fastrax UC430, while providing new benefits to designers, developers and manufacturers of handheld digital devices.

The Fastrax UC530 features the highest sensitivity on the market (-165 dBm in tracking) and extremely low power consumption, typically only 45 mW average power. The antenna module is easily embeddable in space-restricted environments thanks to its tiny footprint of 9.6 x 14.0 x 1.95 mm and extended input voltage range of +3.0V+4.3V. The ability to directly connect the module to a lithium battery allows hardware designers to omit cost-adding regulators. Full SMT design reduces the need for external components and minimizes manufacturing costs.

The integrated chip antenna of the Fastrax UC530 exhibits significantly better radiation efficiency than small patch antennas and performs well against larger and heavier patch antennas. Its circular radiation pattern brings flexibility to hardware design. The optional connectivity to an external GPS antenna extends the applicability of the module to a wider range of devices from handheld computers to asset tracking systems. When the optional external antenna is used, the embedded antenna works as a low-cost back up.

The new power-saving AlwaysLocate mode prolongs battery life while maintaining location information, similarly to the newly introduced Fastrax IT530 GPS receiver module. Depending on the environment and motion, the module adjusts its navigation activity to balance positioning accuracy, fix rate and power consumption. In addition, the Embedded Assist System (EASY) reduces warm-start TTFF by up to 90% with autonomously calculated ephemeris data for next three days. The additional server-assisted EPO file transfer extends the external A-GPS service to up to 14 days when desired.

Location-aware features and applications are increasingly becoming mainstream in all sorts of digital devices, which is equally exciting for users as it is challenging for hardware providers, said Fredrik Borgstr

Education Matching Service College Complete Spokesman Justin Lofton Continues Hot Streak in Kansas with Seventh Place Run in his NASCAR truck

Sea Cliff, NY (PRWEB) April 23, 2012

Justin Lofton tallied his fourth straight top-10 run on Saturday at Kansas Speedway, continuing his strong start to the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season. Lofton started the SFP 250 from the third position, and after his No. 6 College Complete (, 877.543.2655) team adjusted on his Chevrolet throughout the day, crossed the finish line in the seventh position.

"I am so proud of these guys on this College Complete team. We battled with the truck a little bit out there. It was pretty aero tight. We made a few adjustments and it helped a little bit. For some reason I was off just a small amount on a few of those restarts, but we'll take seventh. You know it's a good day when you are upset about a top-10," Lofton said.

Lofton began his visit in Kansas early, spending the day Thursday at Fort Riley Army base. The visit was Lofton's third in as many years. This time, he brought along his entire No. 6 College Complete Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) team. On Saturday, Lofton was joined by two dozen soldiers from Fort Riley for the 167-lap race. Knowing that many of the soldiers who were on hand had just returned from a deployment overseas, Lofton was motivated to bring home a strong run for them.

Once the green flag waved at the 1.5-mile Kansas track, it took only two laps for the field to see a caution flag. On lap 37, the yellow was out again, allowing Lofton to make his first pit stop of the race. He pulled down pit road to the attention of his College Complete team for four tires, fuel, and a spring rubber adjustment. The No. 6 team pulled into the pits in fifth, and after a solid stop, rejoined the race in fifth.

As the race went on, the only complaint Lofton had was that his Chevrolet seemed to be riding a little rough on the right side, noting that the truck was battling an aero-tight condition.

With just under 100 laps left to run, Bormann called him down pit road for another pit stop. After pulling back on track however, the yellow flag waved, putting Lofton 13th for the restart.

Less than six laps later, he had muscled his way back into the top-10. The California racer continued his charge until being called down pit road once they hit their fuel window 17 laps from the finish. Bormann opted for two tires only, sending Lofton back on track in 14th.

As the stops cycled through the field and the laps clicked down, Lofton wheeled his way into the seventh position. The result gave him his fourth straight top-10 finish. Just four races into the 2012 season, Lofton has already surpassed his top-10 count from 2011. He is currently third in the driver point standings, 11 points out of the top spot.

Lofton and his College Complete ESR team will observe a few off weeks in truck competition before returning to the track at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 18th.

Lofton however, will not be too far from a race vehicle, as he plans on running two off-road events in his No. 77 class 1500 General Tire / College Complete buggy.
