Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fighter and Howard County Native, Jon Delbrugge Makes His Professional Mixed Martial Arts Debut

Elkridge, MD (PRWEB) October 13, 2012

Former Operation Octagon Amateur Lightweight Champion Jon Delbrugge has scored six consecutive victories en route to a two-year dominant reign atop the east coast's amateur MMA circuit. On Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling, VA the international grappling standout returns to the cage as a professional looking to pick up where he left off as an amateur against a very tough Steven Wampler.

Delbrugge has been training and working full time at the academy where he began his career at four years ago. Jon credits all of his accomplishments directly to his coach who is also the owner of Crazy 88 Mixed Martial Arts Academy, Julius Park.

Jon has been training in a professional environment following the normal protocols that all of the guys adhere to in the Team Lloyd Irvin system. It is no surprise that he was able to do well in the amateur ranks. We expect him to do the same at the pro level. Of course, its a different game at the top end of the sport but he has been putting in the work and traveling and competing at the international level in other martial arts like grappling and Jiu-Jitsu. All he has to do is keep it up." Said Park.

Boasting numerous international medals from tournaments all over the world in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the explosive Delbrugge (6-0 as a amateur in MMA) is looking to establish himself in the professional MMA world. He is set to take on his toughest challenge to date in the very experienced but also debuting as a pro, Steve Wampler (9-5 as a amateur in MMA). Having submitted his last opponent via arm bar in his last outing as an amateur, the hard nosed Wampler has shown he has the durability and experience to silence any critics and defeat the seemingly unstoppable Delbrugge.

I'm excited to officially start my pro career close to home in front of my family and friends. Delbrugge said. Steve Wampler is a super tough guy. He has pretty good striking and his grappling is also good. I respect the fact that he has a lot of experience and has been competing in MMA for a long time. Although everything we have done as amateurs means absolutely nothing now that we are pros I am very excited for this opportunity and I am sure this will be a great fight.

There has been much anticpation regarding Delbrugge and his MMA career. In todays world fighters try their hardest to explode up through the ranks in hopes of the UFC. But Delbrugge was the exact opposite. Honing his skills in each individual area of MMA. He spent the majority of the last four years traveling the world competing in the art of submission grappling/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Lanny Sommese-designed, Penn State Emergency Student Aid Commemorative Tapestry Makes Its Central Pennsylvania Arts Festival Debut on Friday, July 13, 2012

University Park, Pennsylania (PRWEB) July 10, 2012

For the first time in more than three decades, legendary graphic designer Lanny Sommese will be the talk of the Central Pennsylvania Arts Festival for an original work of art that is woven and benefits the new emergency student loan fund at Penn State. His bold, widely acclaimed, all-wool tapestry design, Hand In Hand, makes its festival weekend debut Friday at a special exhibition in Robb Hall, within the Hintz Family Alumni Center in the heart of campus.

Lanny is synonymous with the Arts Festival as its brilliantly whimsical official poster creator, commented emergency loan fund founder Tom Sharbaugh (73), so it is a fitting tribute that his inspiring tapestry design be offered to festival visitors who otherwise might not have the opportunity to see his first foray into fabric art, and a chance to help our students.

The Sommese design, contributed to the effort, was interpreted in the tapestry through a creative partnership with Langhorne Carpet Company of Penndel, Bucks County. As part of its non-profit focused Carpets of Caring program, the world-renowned custom carpet mill wove each tapestry (27 x 36 and costing $ 300.00) on its historic Jacquard Wilton loom. The weaving technique accentuates the blue open interlocking hands, set against a robust red background, that are symbolically extended in support of the Emergency Student Loan Fund. Penn State is believed to be the only state university offering this type of fund, which provides timely low-interest financial aid ( primarily through alumni donations.

University officials, who handle fund administration, say in its first year it has been an educational lifesaver, raising more than $ 225,000 from donors in nearly 40 states to directly help undergraduates cover unexpected costs. With yearly costs topping $ 28,000 including tuition, room, board, and books more and more students risk dropping out for strictly financial reasons.

The Alumni Association is proud to have been involved since inception with the emergency student loan fund, explained Deborah J. Marron, Ed. D., Director of Program Development and Enrichment for the Alumni Association. It is a great example of generations of alums coming to the aid of future alumni. As a Board Member of the Arts Festival, I could not be happier that the Hand In Hand tapestry will be on display inside Robb Hall during this remarkable artistic exposition.

Pre-festival tapestry orders can be placed directly through Tom Sharbaugh (tomsharbaugh (at) gmail (dot) com/ 215-963-5004), or Steph Rosenfeld (steph (at) idadvisors (dot) com / 215-569-4343) and picked up at the Hand In Hand exhibit inside Robb Hall. Purchases can also be made online through Langhorne Carpet,

ITU Announces New Partnership between Digital Arts Department and TechShop in San Jose, CA

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2012

International Technological University (ITU) is announcing a partnership between its Digital Arts Department and TechShop, a member-based workshop facility offering access to over $ 1,000,000 worth of powerful equipment, digital design software and instruction. The partnership between ITU and Tech Shop is a result of their membership within The San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce.

We are pleased that both of our members, ITU and Tech Shop, are benefitting from one of the chambers core values: helping our members create mutually beneficial connections with each other, said Matthew Mahood, the Chambers President & CEO.

TechShops mission is to empower people to build their dreams. Members have access to equipment for rapid prototypingeverything from mills and lathes to 3D printers and laser cutters.

We are thrilled to work with ITUs Digital Arts Department, said Michael Catterlin, Manager of TechShop San Jose. TechShop is centered around educating the community and offering a supportive environment to students, entrepreneurs, artists, and others who want to make things but lack the tools, space or skills.

The Digital Arts Department at ITU, a graduate university in Silicon Valley, is currently offering a course called Manufacturing Cinematic Spaces taught by Professor Marina Christodoulides. Professor Marina is co-founder of RECESS, an interdisciplinary design collective, and designer for innovation studio at MKThink. The course uses film as a pedagogical tool for an architecture design studio. Students learn about space in a new way by analyzing films. By the end of the semester, students will incorporate class concepts to design and represent space in three dimensions through digital and physical models. After giving the students comprehensive equipment training, TechShop will provide them with access to their state-of-the-art Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment to fabricate physical models of their final designs.

As Professor Christodoulides puts it, TechShop is making tools that were once only available to manufacturing and production facilities available to everyone today. It is the contemporary shared woodshop.

Students at ITU will be trained to use laser cutters and 3-D printers by TechShop staff. Though this is a pilot program for experimentation and research purposes, Digital Arts Chair Cedrick Chan, a media and entertainment professional who worked on films such as the Star Wars prequels, Hero and The Mummy Returns, notes: We expect that student membership will be an integral part of the departments curriculum. Students are already recognizing the tactile and digital influence of their work. To learn more about the Digital Arts Department, visit
