American Real Estate Investors Academy Radio Investigates Virtual Outsourcing

New York, New York (PRWEB) December 29, 2013

The American Real Estate Investors Academy radio show conducted a live interview with Elsa Oden of Virtual Office Staffing. The American-REIA website now offers virtual assistant services to the public.

Virtual staffing is a modern answer to an old business problem. Entrepreneurs work to grow their business. At a certain point, the successful business owner will grow the business from a single person start up to a company that needs employees. Hiring the first employee is a big challenge to a start-up company. This is also true for any small business when it chooses to expand by adding staff.

As a company grows, the owner must decide when to expand the workforce. This is one of the most critical and dangerous decisions in the evolution of any company. If the company expands too quickly, then they run the risk of going broke because the revenue can’t support the company payroll. If the company doesn’t expand quickly enough, then it will lose business.

In this interview with the CEO of the Academy’s preferred vendor of virtual staffing services, listeners are informed about the basics of virtual staffing. Also covered in this program are some of the tasks that small business owners can outsource to VA services, and the reasons that many small businesses have chosen to go this route. To add real employees, a business must commit to providing space and computer equipment to the new hire. Virtual assistants do not require any of these capital investments. Tough economic conditions, strong competition, and the looming implementation of Obama Care all favor virtual staff over traditional in house employees. The biggest revelation in this interview is that scalability creates a very large competitive advantage for the virtual employee over the traditional employee. Virtual staff members can be employed as much or as little as the business owner desires. One example that popped up during the interview was that of a business owner who goes on vacation. If the business uses virtual staff, then there is no employee cost during that time. More traditional businesses have to pay for an employee even if there is no work to be done. Virtual staffing is only a cost when the virtual employee is actually doing work for the company. There are no vacations, coffee, or bathroom breaks on the company dime with a virtual employee. According to Josh Caldwell of Caldwell Holdings LLC, a Pittsburgh real estate Investing company, "My home buying business in Pittsburgh would never be able to function at the level we are at without the use of virtual assistants."

The radio interview covers all of the benefits and pitfalls of dealing with virtual staffing or virtual assistants. To hear a playback of the recording in its entirety, just follow this link to the real estate academy’s radio archive page.

Real estate investors are no different than other business interests. The typical real estate investor starts of as a sole proprietor. Then the successful investors grow and add staff to handle marketing and administrative functions. The goal of every successful real estate investor is to run a business on autopilot. Adding virtual assistants is the safest proven way for investors to expand. That is why the American Real Estate Investors Academy is now offering virtual staffing to real estate investors and other entrepreneurs.

Ware Academy to Host Annual Silent Auction November 16

Gloucester, VA (PRWEB) August 16, 2013

Ware Academy is going wild this year at its annual silent auction.

The Gloucester independent school will host its signature annual fundraising event in the gymnasium on campus, featuring a Wild About Ware safari theme, on Nov. 16 from 6 p.m. to midnight.

This year, for the first time, the auction will include live music from Slapnation, the band formerly known as Slapwater.

Tickets are $ 75 per person, or $ 100 per couple. Reserve tickets now by calling Ware Academy at 804.693.3825.

Many people are not fully aware of the true costs of educating a child, said Becky White, a Ware Academy parent and the Auction Chairwoman. Tuition alone does not fully cover those costs. The Ware Academy Parents Association conducts fundraising events each year to support academic programs, technology, the athletic department and the fine and performing arts.

The event has proven so successful over the years because of the strong support for education across the community among Ware Academy student families as well as Middle Peninsula residents and thanks to the unique silent auction items, the event committee pulls together, said Ginger James, Ware Academys Director of Admissions and Special Events.

Ware Academy has already received donations of week-long vacations at all-inclusive resorts in Panama, the British Virgin Islands, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados, James said.

Individuals, families and businesses can sponsor the auction itself or donate unique items for guests to bid on.

Cash sponsorships of $ 1,000 or more include six tickets to the auction (valued at $ 75 each) with preferred seating at a reserved table and signage to represent the donor.

Ware Academy is located at 7036 John Clayton Memorial Highway in Gloucester.

For more information, contact Ginger James, Director of Admissions and Special Events, at 804.693.3825.

Academy of Art University Web Design and New Media Student Heather Tomkins Receives Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Design Fellowship

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) May 20, 2013

Heather Tomkins, a Web Design and New Media graduate student at Academy of Art University, will be spending the summer working at Klout, the San Francisco tech company that measures the influence of social media users, thanks to the Kleiner Perkins Design Fellows Program. Tomkins is one of twelve design students from around the country to receive a fellowship from Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, the venture capital firm that launched the Design Fellows Program to provide the most promising design students with mentorship, leadership and community and to nurture the interconnection of design and technology in developing innovative products and services. The program connects design students from the top universities in the country with some of the most design-influenced companies in the firm's portfolio.

As part of the application process, Tomkins submitted her Academy thesis project, an interactive childrens book for the iPad called The Bear and the Picture Camera. She designed the book in a way that allows the reader and the main character to explore and draw together a type of combination she felt was missing in the iPad childrens book market.

Not only did this project allow me to develop new skills in user experience and user interface design, it allowed me to further develop my skills as an illustrator, visual designer and storyteller, she said. Im honored and excited to be a 2013 KPCB Design Fellow. I look forward to my summer with Klout and this invaluable opportunity to grow as a designer.

Academy President Elisa Stephens explains how the universitys teaching strategy helps make accomplishments like Tompkins possible: One thing every Academy student must do in order to graduate is complete a portfolio of work that shows potential employers that the student has not only studied design, but has hands-on experience and can contribute to a company. Heather clearly knocked the ball out of the park with her thesis project, and we are excited that she will be able to further develop her skills this summer at Klout.

The Design Fellows Program is part of KPCBs strategy for supporting innovative companies. In establishing it, says Juliet de Baubigny, a partner at KPCB who helped build the program, What we wanted to do was to really support the field; we wanted to make sure that we helped our companies gain access to the best designers, and we wanted to continue, ourselves, to learn as the field of design innovation unfolds. I feel that design is going to be the key differentiator with many entrepreneurial ventures going forward.

Since its founding in 1972, KPCB has backed entrepreneurs in more than 500 ventures including AOL, Amazon, Citrix, Compaq, Electronic Arts, Genentech, Google, Intuit, Juniper Networks, Netscape, Sun, Symantec, Verisign and Zynga. The program aims to help bright students gain the experience and relationships they need to create meaningful careers at technology companies after graduation, and KPCBs portfolio companies benefit by tapping into the next generation of design thinking and talent.

Celebrated Illustrator, Figurine Innovator, Thomas Blackshear, to Receive 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the American Academy of Art

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 08, 2013

Award pays tribute to Blackshears 35-year career creating illustrations, paintings, postage stamps and best-selling collector items.

The prestigious American Academy of Art has named 1977 graduate Thomas Blackshear former commercial illustrator, and prolific and celebrated artist of postage stamps, figurines, paintings, collectable plates and much more the 2013 recipient of its Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Blackshear, most recognized for developing the first, best-selling line of figurines for the African-American market, Ebony Visions will accept his award and speak to this years graduating class at the Academys graduation ceremony, happening from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Chicago Downtown Marriott, 540 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Ill. 60611.

Thomas has built a fantastic name and success for himself by pursuing his own, unique vision, said Richard Otto, the Academys president. Were thrilled to give him our most important award.

Receiving this significant recognition is a huge compliment, explained Blackshear. The Academy has been a key component of my success. And its a real honor to share this award with the talented, past winners who came before me and whose work inspires me.

Prolific Artist

Blackshears resume includes having worked for Hallmark Cards, Inc. out of college and later went on to become head illustrator for Godbold/Richter Studios. He consistently worked as an illustrator for 14 years creating work for Anheuser-Busch, Lucas Films, Universal Studios, Greenwich Workshop (limited-edition prints) and many other companies.

U.S. Postage Stamps:

Blackshear has also illustrated nearly 30 postage stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. I enjoy being able to do something most people see and that honors someone else, Blackshear commented. Stamps are the only form of illustration that I consistently still do since focusing on paintings and collectables.

Collectable Plates:

Blackshear entered the collectible world in the late 80s when the Hamilton Collection commissioned him to create four series of limited-edition collector plates beginning with the highly successful, original Star Wars series. He also created the first Wizard of Oz portrait plates and the first Star Trek plates. Blackshear says he has nearly 30 collector plates to his credit.

Figurines the Defining Moment:

Willitts Designs International (a subsidiary of the Lenox Group Inc.) approached Blackshear in 1994 to create a line of black-themed collectables. Blackshear pressed the company to consider his own concepts for an elegant line of unique images instead of creating designs that fit a safer idea of what had been made prior. The company first refused, then agreed to take the chance.

When Blackshears self-titled Ebony Visions line came out, it changed the collectables industry by changing the perception of what this type of artwork could look like. It also became Willitts Designs Internationals bestseller within months and made Willitts its first $ 1 million, according to Blackshear. Ebony Visions, which Blackshear terms "Afro-Nouveau, has been the number-one best seller for black figurines for the last 19 years and approximately 200 of his figurines have been produced, Blackshear explained.

President Obama, Pope John Paul

Blackshear has also created a portrait of Pope John Paul II that was included in the one-man exhibition he was invited to have at the Vatican in 2006. That piece and his entire show was viewed and well received by bishops and dignitaries from throughout the word. A week before the presidential election in 2012, Blackshear completed a portrait of President Obama. Prior, he had created a figurine of the president.

Blackshears Experience at the Academy

The Academy is one of the few places I truly learned, besides the amazing experience of working as an apprentice to my former instructor Mark English, Blackshear explained. The Academy exposed me to materials I didnt know about, introduced me to new styles of composition and gave me my essential, foundational learning. I was taught to experiment, explore and strive beyond the norm. That school helped me to think outside of the box.

Academy of Art University and Aurasma Unveil Interactive Digital Catalogue for Prospective Students

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) October 16, 2012

Academy of Art University and Aurasma, the worlds leading augmented reality platform, unveiled a groundbreaking digital, interactive catalogue for prospective students that brings the Academys industry-leading art and design programs to life. The Universitys new catalogue, Intersections, is a traditional book featuring all 19 fields of study at the Academy of Art, but with a new interactive feature powered by Aurasma an augmented reality technology that allows users to point their iPad, iPhone or Android device at their book to watch the images on the page come to life. Academy of Art University is the first art school to use the technology, and the Universitys wide-scale distribution of the book is the largest college effort to date with more than 500,000 copies being shipped to prospective students.

The Academy of Art University has so much to offer students who want to pursue careers in creative fields, and we wanted to identify an innovative platform that would allow us to connect with prospective students and show them exactly how our curriculum can help them to be successful in the workforce, said Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of Academy of Art University. Aurasmas technology allows students to see the quality of work being produced on campus in an interactive way and it allows us to constantly update the images and information in real-time as we add new courses and offerings. This is marketing in the 21st century and we are proud to be the first art University to take advantage of Aurasmas industry-leading technology.

Aurasma uses advanced image and pattern recognition to recognize and understand real-world images and objects. It then seamlessly blends the realworld with rich, interactive content such as videos and animations called auras. The Academy of Art University's Intersections book features 50 auras that users can point their smart device at, which connects them to video/audio and websites with more information about the particular field of study. The image introducing every department features an aura that takes users to a short video introducing that specific department.

The Academy of Art University is a perfect partner for our augmented reality technology, said Jennifer Rapp, general manager at Aurasma. We are excited about partnering with the Academy of Art University to be on the cutting edge of marketing to students in todays digital society, and believe this is exactly the kind of innovation that students today will connect with as they make the all-important decision of where to get their education.

Composition4, an edgy, new San Francisco hybrid advertising agency coordinated with Aurasma to create this project on behalf of the Academy of Art University. The company is run by Academy of Art University alumni Zach Morvant and Andrew Wright and co-director of the University's advertising department Vince Engel.
