Tablet Company with Unique Charitable Philosophy Enters the Market

Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) July 19, 2013

New tablet company, Abydos Innovations, launched in early 2013 and is aiming to be a business with a big difference. The company seeks to bridge the digital divide by making technology more accessible to more people by setting aside 10 percent of the sale of every tablet to go toward donations to charities and schools.

In celebration of its launch and unique philosophy, the company made an initial donation of 225 tablets to worthy causes, a value of $ 25,000, in the first quarter of 2013.

We sell powerful, light-weight Android tablets with all of the features that consumers have come to expect. But what makes us different is our philosophy we believe in giving back and sharing technology with as many people as we can, said Rick Human, president of Abydos Innovations.

The company is committed to providing affordable technology to everyone. The Abydos line of tablets offer many of the same features as the most desired models on the market, including HD screen resolution, Wi-Fi connectivity, and the ability to download thousands of Android apps in the Google Play store, as well as millions of books, music, movies, television shows, and other media.

Abydos commitment to greater access is summarized in their tagline of Buy Abydos & Give. Recipient programs have included The Oasis Church, the Blazin with Love 5K Run in support of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and additional houses of worship and schools. The company has set up a page on its website for individuals to register their favorite charity to receive a potential donation. Buy & Give.

The company is looking for charities that support a wide variety of people from children to the elderly, from those with physical or mental disabilities, to those who are economically disadvantaged. Technology can be costly, and Abydos Innovations seeks to make it more affordable for those purchasing and also offers donations to worthy causes.

The research is very clear access to technology can change lives. Children who have access do better in school and are better prepared for the modern workforce. The elderly who use technology are more connected and less isolated, leading to be a better quality of life, Human said.

According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), 66 million Americans lack the basic skills to use computers and the Internet, yet more than 62% of American workers rely on the Internet to perform their jobs. A Federal Reserve study in 2008 found that teenagers with computer access at home have graduation rates that are six to eight percent higher than students who do not have computers.

Currently, the company is selling a 10.1-inch Wi-Fi enabled HD Android tablet with the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 operating system for the low price of $ 269.99. The company also has 7 and 8 inch tablets at equally reasonable prices. The website, http://www.abydosinnovations.com, has recently been refreshed and offers simple navigation to allow customers to select the right tablet for them.

When computers or tablets are out of reach financially, we put our children at a serious disadvantage, Human said. At Abydos Innovations, were interested in bridging the digital divide to ensure everyone has the skills theyll need to be connected and be a part of the digital economy.

PowerNet Global, a telecommunications provider in Cincinnati, is partnering with Abydos Innovations to provide voice, Internet, and Wi-Fi services in addition to Abydos tablets for schools, churches, and similar institutions. Allison Stevens, Chief Executive Officer of PowerNet Global, said the company is pleased to be a part of Abydos mission.

We have a history of supporting the communities where we operate making donations and volunteering for organizations were passionate about. Were excited to be aligned with Abydos Innovations and fully support the Buy Abydos & Give philosophy, Stevens said.

These modular desks are provided with custom defined components as per user requirements. They contain any number of shelves and storage racks which can be increased over time. The height and width of the desk can also be increased with the addition of a few more components. The main advantage of modular computer desks is that, they can be designed to fit into the exact dimensions of the space provided

All the components are provided along with the nuts and bolts for easy assembling. A manual is also provided which contains instructions to assemble the desk. By following the manual carefully, even the most complex-looking computer desk can be assembled within no time.

E-ComputerDesks.com also tells us that there are some points to remember building a computer desk. First, ensure that the desk is sufficiently close to the power points. Secondly, the wood used to build the desk should be strong and durable like oak or cherry. As solid wood expands and shrinks with changes in humidity, care should be taken to allow space for changes in dimension while attaching the main components. Maximum gluing surface should also be provided for more strength.

The number of storage shelves required should be planned in advance and some space should be provided for attaching more shelves for future expansion. If the CPU is to be put in a closed space, there should be sufficient ventilation inside. Retractable keyboard trays free up space on the desk and also help to keep the keyboard free from dust.

Petrochemistry industry trade group Appe launches new website, branding

BRUSSELS (PRWEB UK) 18 May 2013

The Association of Petrochemicals Producers in Europe (Appe) launched today its revamped website.

Located at http://www.petrochemistry.eu, the site tells the petrochemicals' story in a fresh new way as one that builds the future, showing the building blocks needed to produce most modern materials that are essential to our daily life. These blocks form the basis of most innovations, as their unique properties bring solutions to societys biggest challenges.

Pierre de Kettenis, Appe Secretary General commented: We have devoted a lot of efforts to telling our story better by developing a new petrochemicals flowchart, the most graphically informative way to show what we do and how petrochemicals impact our daily life.

The reworked flowchart takes readers on a journey from raw materials and feedstocks through to building blocks, derivatives and everyday items like plastics for cars, household cleaners and building insulation. Readers can choose a petrochemical building block and a colour code that transports them to a whole chain of petrochemicals derivatives, gives a definition for each substance, and provides a fact sheet with their main applications and properties that they bring to everyday products, as well as links to other websites for more in-depth information.

During the past 12 years of online publishing, Appe has worked to establish itself as a credible and reliable source of petrochemistry-related information.

New logo, new site features

The site provides, for the first time, a description of Appe members as well as a news aggregator that displays the latest news on petrochemicals-related issues and the substances. Its responsive design delivers a unique viewing experience whether you are using a laptop, smartphone, or a tablet device. The new features come together with a visual transformation of the Appe logo, which now comes in different shades of blue representing science and green a reference to greening chemistry.

Mr de Kettenis concluded: The new site takes you quickly to a place where people grasp the essence of petrochemistry and the products created under its banner. It also tells the role played by petrochemicals when it comes to sustainability.

We see it as a living tool that serves the needs of industry, stakeholders, regulators and educators. It also makes a strong connection to the changes society has made and presents a major step forward in line with the challenging conditions in which the industry currently operates.

Retire-IT Launches Independent Verification Service for IT Asset Disposition

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) July 18, 2013

For the past nine years, Retire-IT has helped organizations eliminate conflicts-of- interest inherent in IT asset disposition that increase privacy risks. The addition of the Independent Verification service was a natural progression.

Organizations constantly replace outdated computers, servers, laptops, and other types of electronic devices that contain sensitive data and software. This creates a challenge to manage and properly dispose of large numbers of excess electronics.

Data security laws mandate organizations implement "adequate safeguards" to ensure privacy protection, which is why most businesses now rely on expert assistance to help with IT asset disposition. Ironically, this reliance on IT asset disposition outsourcers can create a false sense of security that blinds executives to the biggest threats.

On June 14th, 2013 Harvard Business Review revealed how IT asset disposition is the most overlooked aspect of data security. Privacy experts are becoming more aware of the hidden security issues associated with IT asset disposition. Savvy plaintiff attorneys are also beginning to see how IT asset disposition is an opportunity to make privacy violators pay.

"Chain-of-custody is not a catchphrase," said Kyle Marks, CEO of Retire-IT. "Independent verification is the difference between an organization having defensible disposal or dubious disposal."

Organizations without adequate safeguards have an increased likelihood of a privacy breach occurring. "Trusted insiders can take retired assets any time before the handoff to an ITAD vendor, and before data is destroyed," said Marks.

And when a breach does occur, organizations without adequate safeguards face far greater legal exposure. There is massive contingent liability when a company cannot prove the whereabouts of 100% of its retired computers. When it comes to defending against a punitive privacy class action, dubious ITAD could prove to be the Achilles' heel that results in a plaintiff lawyers dream come true."

Marks continued, "It is disheartening to see organizations invest in efforts to properly retire unwanted equipment, and then fail short of collecting critical evidence to confirm their efforts were a success. Without verification, organizations only have assumptions."

ITAD is full of hidden hazards and conflicts-of-interest, so executives need to be non-credulous when it comes to reporting. In most organizations, disposition activities are performed by low-level employees. Naturally, employees tend to report self-serving interpretations, especially when facts could make them look bad. Without Independent Verification, management will receive heavily distorted information, if any.

"What should you say if your daughter says she got 100 questions right on a test?" asked Marks. "The wise parent asks how many questions were on the test. The same logic applies to IT asset disposition. Whats missing is what matters."

Defensible disposal starts with a reliable process. Independent Verification is a critical component that enhances existing disposal procedures that an organization has in place. Independent Verification also creates opportunities to further strengthen security procedures.

"Instead of having a confrontational relationship with a disposal vendor, organizations can partner with their disposal vendor to close security loopholes. By working with independently-established facts, organizations can finally sit on the same side of the table with their disposal vendors to discuss improvements," said Marks.

Independent Verification allows an organization to:
