Winners Announced in BigDigit’s First “World’s Smallest Animation Festival” Held at SIGGRAPH Graphics Conference

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 18, 2004

BigDigit, Inc. today released the names of the winners in its first annual “World’s Smallest Animation Festival”, which took place last week in Los Angeles at the 2004 SIGGRAPH conference in collaboration with Computer Graphics World magazine.

The winning entries are: ‘Radio Face’, in the category of best mobile animation, submitted by Eric Petajan; and ‘Onadime People’, in the category of Mobile Art, submitted by Patrick Burke. More than 60 entries were received for the competition, which attracted filmmakers and computer graphics artists from around the world.

Finalists in the competition were shown during SIGGRAPH 2004 on wide-screen plasma displays located at the Computer Graphics World booth directly on the exhibit floor. Entries could also be viewed on mobile devices and computers with wired or wireless connections to the Internet and BigDigit Web site (http://www.bigdigit.com). Winning entries in the competition were announced at the CGW booth on the final day of SIGGRAPH, with prizes awarded to those entries that best demonstrated the creation and presentation of mobile animation on highly-mobile wireless devices, such as next-generation cell phones. Prizes were donated by sponsor companies, which include Motorola, Inc. (http://www.motorola.com), NVIDIA (http://www.nvidia.com), and mFlix (http://www.mFlix.com).

More than 60,000 people were expected to attend the four-day SIGGRAPH event, which is the premier gathering for animation and computer graphics developers worldwide.

The winning entries in the “World’s Smallest Animation Festival”, as well as finalist and other entries, will also be available for viewing via the mFlix mobile content channel, due to be launched soon in cooperation with a major U.S. wireless service provider. mFlix is the first global mobile phone distribution channel for animators and filmmakers, and will offer hundreds of independent films and ultra-short content, organized by specific categories, to viewers who subscribe to the monthly service via their wireless carrier. The frequently-updated content will be channeled to viewers via their mobile phones, and can be customized for specific tastes and preferences (comedy, drama, documentary, sports, etc.). More information on the planned service is available from http://www.mflix.com.
