TechBirmingham Holds Alabama's Largest Single Day of Technology Training Ever

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) August 30, 2008

On August 19, 2008, TechBirmingham organized the largest single day of technology training ever held in the state of Alabama. The event was called TechMixer University ( and was held at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel. Over 400 technology based professionals attended.

Some people may be shocked that Birmingham, Alabama has enough technology professionals to support an event of this magnitude, but those people have not been paying attention over the last few years. Birmingham and the entire state of Alabama has become a bustling hub of activity for software development, application development, and biotech start up companies. The entrepreneurial atmosphere in Alabama is very strong. The cost of start-up is low and the talent pool is deep.

The goal of this free event was to provide an opportunity for the technology professionals of Alabama to come together and learn. This event was also created to help employers combat the ever-increasing cost of training.

The two keynote speakers for the day were Gary York, Ph.D. who is a serial entrepreneur with a proven track record for starting successful tech companies and Joan C Hicks who is CIO of UAB, the premier health system in Alabama.

In addition to the two keynotes, there were seven concurrent tracks running with four sessions each throughout the day. Subjects included .NET and Open Source Software Development, Database Technologies, Networking and Security, SharePoint, and Project Management. Speakers who led the tracks included top-level professionals from Microsoft, Oracle, and other leading technology companies.

Event Chairman Brian Rabon said, "As anyone who truly understands technology will tell you, our field evolves at a whirlwind pace. What was once the latest and greatest is old news within a matter of a few short years and in some cases months. IT professionals must constantly re-invent themselves in order to stay current in their field."
