"Qumranet has been doing exciting things in virtualization and Solid ICE has proved to be a superior choice for our customers looking for a cost-effective and turn-key desktop virtualization solution," said Ivan Riservato, CEO of ReiSystem, a Milan-based IT reseller and consultancy.

"We are pleased to be a Qumranet partner and look forward to bringing the benefits of KVM and Solid ICE to all of our customers."

"Since launching Solid ICE in the fall, we have been struck by strong demand for the product in Europe such that launching a local office was a perfect next step," said Benny Schnaider, Qumranet’s CEO and co-founder. "In coming months, we plan to focus our efforts on hiring talent in the European market, and building a strong network of 30-40 resellers."

About Solid ICE

Solid ICE is the only fully-integrated desktop virtualization solution in the market today built specifically for virtualizing desktop environments, and therefore, provides all the benefits of centralized computing with the interactivity and rich user experience of desktop computing. With Solid ICE, the user’s desktop runs in a KVM virtual machine on a server in the data center, and the user connects to it using a thin client (or a repurposed PC) via SPICE (Simple Protocol for Independent Computing Environments), Qumranet’s connection protocol. SPICE is optimized for virtual desktop environments and provides users with a superior interactive experience.

SPICE is a remote connection protocol built for virtual environments and is a fully integrated component of Qumranet’s Solid ICE. SPICE is closely coupled with KVM, and allows users the same interactive experience as they would have with a physical PC on a LAN.

About KVM

KVM (for Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a full virtualization solution for Linux on x86 hardware containing virtualization extensions (Intel VT or AMD-V). It comprises of a loadable kernel module, kvm.ko, that provides the core virtualization infrastructure and a processor specific module, kvm-intel.ko or kvm-amd.ko.

About Qumranet

Based in Sunnyvale, CA and Ra'anana, Israel, Qumranet is an enterprise software company offering a virtual infrastructure platform to enable Independent ComputingTM. Organizations use Qumranet’s first product, Solid ICETM, to host Windows and Linux desktops centrally on servers in the data center, creating what Qumranet calls an Independent Computing Environment (ICETM) for users.
