W. J. Deutsch & Sons, Ltd. (Deutsch), a leading importer and marketer of 25 award-winning wines and spirits from around the world including [yellow tail], Georges Duboeuf and Luksusowa vodka, announced today the appointment of Mike McGill as President, W. J. Deutsch Spirits Division, reporting to President Tom Steffanci. McGill, who joins Deutsch from Diageo where he was Senior Vice President/ General Manager, Southwest, will be responsible for the sales and marketing of Deutsch’s rapidly growing Spirits Division, including full P&L responsibility for the business unit.

“Mike joins Deutsch at a critical juncture in our company’s development,” said Steffanci. “Our spirits business is one of our five strategic growth initiatives that we unveiled last year to help us achieve our long-term goals. Mike brings a proven track record of delivering hard results in terms of profit and growth but also excellent skills leading and motivating teams. Moreover, his expertise in designing and executing launch strategies for new products will particularly be important as we expand The Original Moonshine into additional key markets and unveil our new packaging on Luksusowa vodka. I am confident that under Mike’s leadership, our spirits portfolio will grow rapidly and exceed all of our expectations.”

McGill, a beverage industry veteran, brings excellent spirits experience and expertise that he can apply in his new role. During his 12-year career at Diageo, he served in a variety of executive positions on both the spirit and beer sides, most recently managing a six-state team responsible for approximately $ 300 million in spirits revenue. Through his leadership, distributor management and process creation skills, he transformed the businesses under his management, over-delivering against plan and driving market share gains.

“I am extremely excited to join the amazing team of sales and marketing professionals at Deutsch,” said McGill. “I have long respected the dynamic portfolio of wine brands that Bill and Peter Deutsch have built and I am invigorated by the challenge of rapidly building the scale of the new spirits business. I see a huge opportunity for newer players in Spirits like Deutsch to make rapid inroads and turn emerging brands into category contenders.”

“Mike’s appointment is a significant milestone in achieving my dad’s and my vision of building our spirits division into the same kind of powerhouse sales and marketing company that we have built for wine,” said Peter Deutsch, CEO. “This year we celebrate our 30th anniversary, and we continue to innovate and press forward into new frontiers, spirits being among the most exciting. We have every confidence that our spirits division, under Tom and Mike’s leadership, will rapidly grow market share and bring meaningful profit to our distributor and retail partners alike.”
