New America Foundation to Participate in Tech Policy Summit

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 29, 2007

The New America Foundation announced today that Michael Calabrese, Vice President and Director of the Wireless Future Program, will participate as a featured speaker in Tech Policy Summit, being held February 26 and 27, 2007 in San Jose, California. The invitation-only, nonpartisan summit brings together leaders from the private and public sectors, including top government officials, industry executives and other policy experts.

Mr. Calabrese will represent the New America Foundation as part of a roundtable on innovative strategies for delivering broadband taking place at Tech Policy Summit on Monday, February 26. Hosted by prominent blogger Om Malik, the session also features senior executives from Comcast and Verizon. The chairman of New America's Board of Directors, James Fallows, senior editor of the Atlantic Monthly, served on the Tech Policy Summit advisory board.

"I am pleased to join colleagues and industry leaders at the Tech Policy Summit to discuss the important topic of how we can bring universal, affordable broadband connectivity to all. I look forward to addressing the essential role of wireless broadband for achieving pervasive connectivity," Calabrese said.

Through its Wireless Future Program, New America Foundation works to promote wireless broadband as an affordable way to offer all Americans ubiquitous and high-speed Internet access, particularly in under-served rural and low-income areas. By reallocating underutilized spectrum for wireless broadband, the United States can increase its competitiveness with other countries around the world that have surged ahead of the U.S. in broadband adoption rates.
