M-Tech Reaches ÂIn Evaluation Status for Common Criteria Certification (CCC)
Calgary, AB (PRWEB) July 8, 2005
M-Tech Information Technology, Inc., a leading provider of identity management (IdM) solutions, today announced that its Identity Management Suite version 3 has advanced to the ÂIn Evaluation stage of Common Criteria Certification.
CCC is a suite of standards for security protection that was jointly created by the governments of developed countries to create a standardized certification that is currently accepted by 19 countries under the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). A number of government and military organizations require that all vendors be certified under Common Criteria to ensure IT products and systems meet their stringent security requirements.
M-TechÂs IdM Suite version 3 is being tested according to the Canadian Scheme, Communications Security Establishment (CSE) (http://www.cse-cst.gc.ca/en/services/common_criteria/ccs_overview.html). DOMUS IT Security Lab, a division of IBM located in Ottawa Ontario, (http://www.domusitsl.com/) is conducting CCC testing for M-Tech. DOMUS is a third-party standard testing facility comprised of IT security specialists.
Prior to reaching the ÂIn Evaluation stage, DOMUS IT Lab wrote the Security Target to identify which product functions would be tested and the feasibility of M-TechÂs IdM Suite achieving certification. A Security Target (ST) contains the requirements that the specific product or system under evaluation must conform to. Once the ST was accepted by the Canadian Scheme CSE, M-Tech entered ÂIn-Evaluation status which means that testing can formally begin.
At the end of this process, M-TechÂs IdM Suite version 3 will be certified to Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2 for CCC. Testing is expected to conclude this fall. By year end 2005, CSE is expected to complete its review of the results at which point M-Tech will have competed CCC (http://www.cse-cst.gc.ca/en/services/common_criteria/trusted_products.html).
ÂCCC gives M-Tech the opportunity to expand its international market by responding to government and military requests for proposals (RFPs) that explicitly stipulate CCC, says Gideon Shoham, M-Tech CEO. ÂFor example, every IT security product purchased by the U.S. government for National Security Systems that handle classified information are required to be Common Criteria Certified under the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Policy #11 (NSTISSP #11), adds Shoham (http://niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/nstissp_11_revised_factsheet.pdf).
ÂEntering the ÂIn Evaluation stage of CCC is a significant milestone for any organization that wants to compete on a global scale, says Luc D Cousineau, DOMUS IT Security Lab. ÂM-Tech has been diligent in following the standards needed to complete this process and will subsequently increase its market share and create new growth opportunities, adds Cousineau.
M-Tech appears to be the first independent identity management software vendor to participate in a Common Criteria Certification process (http://www.cse-cst.gc.ca/en/services/common_criteria/ongoing_evals.html).
