Atlanta?s Newest Downtown Caf

Atlanta’s Newest Downtown Café to Serve up Inspiring Titles, Feature National and Local Authors

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 26, 2011

Café Hortensia, now open in downtown Atlanta near Centennial Park, is a place to grab a great cup of coffee, eat some of Atlanta’s best shrimp and grits, and enjoy live book readings from national and local authors. Beginning in May 2011 and continuing throughout the spring, Café Hortensia’s newest evening café series titled “Author’s Share’ will include several authors from Atlanta as well as national novelists who will deliver live excerpts from their books, do book signings and personally meet and greet their fans.

Café Hortensia, located in the lower level of the Healey Building at 57 Forsyth Street, is the brainchild of owner Wanda Knight. The new café offers southern cuisine favorites for breakfast and lunch, which attracts downtown’s heavy pedestrian traffic. “In addition to the crowds we serve during the day we wanted to offer our patrons a fun, yet relaxed setting in the evening and Author’s Share was the perfect opportunity,” said Knight.

Author Share is hosted by celebrated Atlanta-based novelist Lonz Cook, who recently debuted his third paperback “When Love Evolves,” published by Sterling and Ross Cambridge House Publishers. He also authored reader favorites “A Choice to Yield,” in 2009 and “Good Guys Finish Last,” in 2006.

Authors Share May events at Café Hortensia are as follows:

MONDAY, MAY 2, 2011, 7 P.M. - 9 P.M.

Author Claudia Moss

“If You Love Me, Come” resonates with lyrical language and reservoirs of emotion. Claudia Moss, a storyteller from a long line of Southern storytellers, plants her post in a novel about the healing power of love and redemption, about betrayal and longing, about family and its many forms. Her novel’s character Frenonia Roberts, leads an idyllic life. If you ask her baby sister Rhonda, her best friend Sharmayne and anyone else looking in on her glamorous, Buppie existence in Atlanta—where she high-steps it through her days as a young entrepreneur and owner of TheWeAreFamily Bookstore and Coffeeshop—she is the apple of her mother’s eye, a pacesetter spearheading the city’s National Black Arts Festival, hostess of the esteemed Isis Book Club and the flame in J.T.’s heart until everything in her life takes a different turn.

Author Harold Michael Harvey

Harvey’s new thought-provoking novel, “Paper Puzzle,” challenges the assumption of justice flowing out of the courthouse. This Southern mystery centers on two newspaper editors and a series of murders spanning forty years. Painting a vivid verbal picture of the post-Civil Rights Era South, Harvey’s historical description of the area and his knowledge of law provide a compelling look at social mores in our not-so-distant past, as well an often disturbing glimpse of our judicial system.

MAY 16, 2011, 7 P.M. – 9 P.M.

Author Barbra Porter Coleman

"A Ram in The Bush" is an electrifying drama about jealousy and abuse in a relationship. In Coleman’s new novel, two stranger’s paths ironically cross and a medallion passed down through three generations helps save innocent lives. The author’s work will keep you eagerly turning pages as lies, intrigue, and infidelity unfurl. The first three months of marriage were great. Then jealousy reared its ugly green head. Shay’s obsessive jealousy leads her to purchase a GPS car tracking device to keep track of the whereabouts of her newlywed husband. Her obsessive jealousy and outrageous accusations rapidly begin to destroy what had been shaping up to be a wonderful marriage. Insecurity can lead to jealousy - jealousy can lead to obsession - obsession can lead to abuse - abuse can lead to death.

Author KR Bankston

In Bankston’s newest book “Smoke & Mirrors,” (the third installment of the Dezi Gianni series) Gianni has spent twenty plus years rebuilding his empire, becoming even more powerful than he’d been before. Though the life of luxury and privilege that people only dream of never faltered, Dezi was not fulfilled. There was still that one loose end, and Dezi Gianni was not the kind of man to leave things unresolved. Determined to reclaim the essence of that which he loves more than his own life, he sets out on a dangerous journey back to the very soil he was once legally excommunicated from. The threat of arrest and prison looming over his head is not a deterrent. Dezi has no plans of leaving empty handed this time however, and heaven help anyone or anything, that gets in his way. When Dezi Gianni returns to his expansive mansion estate carved in the hills of the picturesque township in Bermuda, his life will begin anew. The once loose end will be secured and Dezi Devastator Gianni’s world will once again be absolute.

RealWorld Graphics Releases RealWorld Icon Editor 2006.1

RealWorld Graphics Releases RealWorld Icon Editor 2006.1

Cerncice, Czech Republic (PRWEB) April 20, 2006

RealWorld Graphics released version 2006.1 of RealWorld Icon Editor, a professional icon authoring software for Microsoft Windows.

RealWorld Icon Editor is an integrated system capable of creating and editing raster images, Windows icons, and simple 3D models. The software is designed to enable a scenario, where user makes a 3D model, renders it to image, and generates an icon from the rendered image without ever leaving the application. The utilization of 3D models increases productivity; one 3D model can be used in multiple icons and the application provides realistic lighting, perspective transformations, and occlusions virtually for free.

Version 2006.1 brings new features that assist designers to create icons for the upcoming version Microsoft operating system, the Windows Vista. RealWorld Icon Editor 2006.1 can render reflective surfaces and apply projected shadows to images using an interactive tool - both of these effects are encountered often in Windows Vista icons. Application menu, toolbars, and window layout are context sensitive and can be customized by the end user or exported and shared among users.

"Once I got accustomed to working with RealWorld Icon Editor, my productivity increased considerably. Graphic design often involves a lot of trials and errors and RealWorld Icon Editor does a good job in eliminating the repetitive tasks here. I often found myself just pushing buttons, comparing the different renditions of an icon, and selecting the best one," said one of the users of the application.

Vlastimil Miler, one of the authors, explained: "During development of the application, we have chosen the most important use cases, analyzed the tasks needed to perform each step of the case, and finally automated as much as possible in the application. The architecture of the application allows end users to make modifications to the scenarios and fine-tune them for their specific needs. The result is an application performing exactly what the user needs from it."

More information about RealWorld Icon Editor can be found at http://www.rw-designer.com/3D_icon_editor.php

About RealWorld Graphics:

RealWorld Graphics (founded in 2004) develops software derived from the RealWorld Designer system - an open, plug-in based software framework, and provides specialized graphic design services.

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) May 27, 2006

Award-winning Victoria BC designer, Peggy Cady, immediate past president of the national GDC, and Catherine Garden, of Calgary AB, former GDC Treasurer, were each awarded GDC Fellowship at the GDC Annual General Meeting, in Edmonton, AB.

Fellowship is the highest honour that the national Society can bestow, and is awarded to an individual who by accomplishment and influence has made a major contribution to graphic design in Canada. Only 56 individuals have received this accolade since 1960.

Peggy Cady served the GDC as national president 2004-06, was formerly national vice president and membership chair as well as president of the Vancouver Island Chapter for four years. As national president, she focused on finance, structure and standards to bring the national GDC new strength, vision and greater national visibility. Cady recently laid the groundwork for the new GDC Canadian Design Foundation, to help inspire, support and invigorate graphic design and design education communities in Canada. She is also a 2004 graduate of Leadership Victoria.

Cady has been a strong advocate for design in Canada, and has promoted the value of design for business. In support of the nomination, former Vancouver Island Chapter President Laurie Darrah MGDC, said, "Over the past few years she has delivered what was missing and has done it with compassion, exceptional diplomacy and integrity." David Berman R.G.D., FGDC, GDC Ethics Chair stated, "Peggy Cady is calmly, quietly, relentlessly, poisedly one of the greatest forces behind the GDC....she has seen us through some of the most challenging times that graphic design in Canada has known."

Brenda Sanderson, MGDC, Executive Director of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) said, "Peggy's leadership of the GDC has given us a new voice on the national stage and created a platform for future growth." Paul Nishikawa, MGDC, retiring vice president stated, "Her commitment to helping others and furthering design has been a model to all. I look forward to being a part of the legacy she has left us through her leadership and vision."

Catherine Garden, was president of the Alberta South Chapter of the GDC for 1995-1996, and National Treasurer for GDC from 1995-2000. She has been a cornerstone of the Alberta South Chapter since it was first initiated in 1992. She became an active volunteer and advocate immediately after she joined the organization. Her commitment to the organization is still strong and her experience and expertise are still relied upon by the executive.

In support of her nomination, Steven Rosenburg FGDC, former National President said, “Catherine is highly deserving of this nomination. She contributed significantly to GDC on a National level in terms of good fiscal planning.... She always made sure that money went toward the benefit of members."

The GDC was founded in 1956, grew to become a national association by 1974 and was granted a Federal Charter in 1976. The GDC celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The GDC's 32-year membership in the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) affiliates the GDC with a world-wide organization of graphic designers and provides its members with the opportunity for international recognition and professional development.

Italian Yaoi Coming to USA

Italian Yaoi Coming to USA

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) July 28, 2006

Yaoi Press has acquired the English publication rights to three prominent Italian yaoi graphic novels.

In January 2007 Yaoi Press will release Idol by the renowned Italian studio Dany&Dany. In this heart-wrenching modern tale a painter hires a jaded hustler to model for him then forms such a strong connection with his subject that he becomes deathly ill when the hustler abandons him before his masterpiece is complete.

Yaoi Press has also licensed Dany&Dany’s gothic yaoi graphic novel, Wishing for the Moon. Both titles were published in Italy by Echo Communications under the titles ‘Eikon’ and ‘La Luna nel Pozzo’ respectively.

The third title, Love Circles, is a lighter, more upbeat story about a nerdy student who asks the most popular man at his college to teach him how to be successful with the woman he loves. He finds himself falling for his gorgeous trainer throughout the social makeover. Love Circles was created by the artist Zel, and was originally published by Echo as ‘Like U.’

All three books will have fresh covers created by the original artists specifically for Yaoi Press’ publication.

Yaoi Press is currently negotiating for the English publication rights to four more Italian graphic novels. They are also working with Dany&Dany on creating an original graphic novel for exclusive publication with Yaoi Press.

Yaoi Press’ founder Yamila Abraham commented on the significance of licensing original yaoi from outside of Asia. “Yaoi is a world-wide phenomenon,” said Abraham.

“I’d never rule out licensing titles from Japan or Korea, but fans of these books are already getting their needs met. There’s brilliant yaoi graphic novels being created all over the world. I hope Italy will just be the beginning for us.”

Other commercial English yaoi publishers reprint books almost exclusively from Japan and Korea.

About Yaoi Press

Yaoi is a romantic genre that deals with stories about men in love with men for mostly women readers. Yaoi Press borrowed their theme from Japan where it’s been hugely popular for several decades. Yaoi has gained a strong foothold in the United States.

lynda.com Announces Release of After Effects 7 and Flash 8 Integration 2.5 hours of training in top motion graphics applications

lynda.com Announces Release of After Effects 7 and Flash 8 Integration 2.5 hours of training in top motion graphics applications

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2006

This video training course demonstrates how to combine professional motion graphics from Adobe After Effects 7 with interactive applications created in Adobe Flash 8. From discussing the differences between Flash and After Effects to showing how to seamlessly import and export vector animations from each application, instructor Lee Brimelow explains everything involved in using the two applications in unison. The tutorial covers working with third party plug-ins, exporting QuickTime from Flash, using the Audio Spectrum and Audio Waveform effects, and creating special effects in After Effects for use in Flash. Exercise files accompany the tutorial.

“Adobe After Effects has long been the tool of choice for professional motion graphics designers, who use it for television commercial graphics, as well for film and video credits. In the past, most Flash animations have been vector-based, with flat shapes and cartoonish movement. However, with the advent of Flash video, more sophisticated After Effects graphics can now be easily leveraged inside interactive Flash communications. The hybrid design possibilities are exciting and endless. This course should help legions of Flash and After Effects artists create new and compelling kinds of work,” says Lynda Weinman, CEO of lynda.com.

Anyone with an Internet connection can access After Effects 7 and Flash 8 Integration by subscribing to lynda.com’s Online Training Library™. A separate DVD version of After Effects 7 and Flash 8 Integration is scheduled for release in late October.

Subscriptions to the lynda.com Online Training Library™ start at $ 25 per month, and provide access to more than 15,250 movie tutorials covering a wide range of technology career tools, software, and techniques. Subscribers can access any of the computer-based training titles at their convenience. Multi-user subscriptions are also available for companies and institutions seeking to provide education and training to groups.

DataTech’s Mobile/Remote High-Speed Satellite Antenna System Earns Certification From Hughes Network Systems

DataTech's Mobile/Remote High-Speed Satellite Antenna System Earns Certification From Hughes Network Systems

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) September 30, 2005

DataTech International, LLC announced today that its new DirecStar auto-pointing and deploying mounting system has been certified by Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HNS), for use with HNS' DIRECWAY® broadband satellite system.

This certification came after several months of rigorous testing by HNS, which included temperature and humidity exposure, rain, icing, freezing rain, dust, 4G and 16G mechanical shock, package vibration and handling shock, wind tunnel, and FCC and CE self-certification compliance.

Reed Brown, president of DataTech said, “These tests were completed to ensure that applicable HNS and government regulatory standards will be met when using the DirecStar system with the DIRECWAY service in a fixed transportable mode. We are very proud to be certified by HNS and excited by the fact that our DirecStar auto-deploying system complies with all the rigorous and thorough testing required by HNS to meet its environmental requirements.”

Available with a .74 or .98 meter dish, the DirecStar system deploys rapidly, providing instant Internet connectivity with a simple touch screen interface and is also easy to install. Transportable, high-speed connectivity enables customers to access broadband from all remote locations, without the need for phone lines. The DirecStar system includes single platform connection for all users and cost-effective pricing with uniform monthly service fees. Such applications as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Secured Private Networks (SPN), transportable Wi-Fi access, real-time Web casts via multicast delivery and streaming and much more, are now available with the DirecStar system with just a click of a button.

David Shiff, vice president of sales, North American Division at HNS said, “HNS completed its review of the DirecStar system and found that DirecStar met all relevant HNS operability standards for use on the DIRECWAY system when properly installed by certified technicians. We are excited about the added deployment and operational capabilities this product offers DIRECWAY users.”

HNS named DataTech a Value Added Reseller (VAR) of DIRECWAY high-speed Internet access services for transportable applications last year. The certification by HNS is a very important next step for DataTech.

Transportable Internet technology is all about freedom of location, and the importance of connectivity and affordability of high-speed communication. People, businesses and time-sensitive service and care organizations who are constantly on the go and who need to send and access information no matter where they are located, now have access to the technology that makes all this possible. These new Internet satellite systems provide transportable access to users such as homeland security, news organizations, the oil, gas, forestry and mining industries, medical service providers, law enforcement, military, emergency response teams, mobile command centers, government, field offices, broadband and video conferencing, construction and recreational vehicles.

DataTech first previewed DirecStar on the DIRECWAY platform at CES 2005. DataTech is now shipping the DirecStar system.

For more information or to schedule an interview with Reed Brown, please call Michael Sherman at 319-754-0604. Please visit our website at http://www.direcstar.com.

Thrilling Graphic Novel Blends Comic Book Adventure with Biblical Themes

Thrilling Graphic Novel Blends Comic Book Adventure with Biblical Themes

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 13, 2006

Obliging the requests initiated by his first novel "Eye Witness: A Fictional Tale of Absolute Truth," Robert James Luedke transforms his groundbreaking work into a full trilogy. Now considered one of the pioneers of the newest genre in literary circles---the Christian-based graphic novel--- this author/illustrator proudly releases his second installment, "Eye Witness: Acts of the Spirit" (ISBN 0975892428).

The innovative Eye Witness series weaves text with comic-book graphics to create a unique literary design where two stories overlap, and the past and the present run concurrently. In "Acts of the Spirit," Luedke combines an exciting, political thriller with relevant aspects of the first nine chapters from the Book of Acts---covering the morning of Jesus' resurrection through the road to Damascus. The remarkable transition in "Acts of the Spirit" from the 21st to the 1st centuries is possible due to the magical quality of the graphic novel.

Larger-than-life forensic archeologist, Dr. Terry Harper (aka the Bone Man), has just completed a consulting assignment for the Israeli Ministry of Antiquities when he finds himself caught in the middle of an attempted suicide bombing. The turbulent atmosphere of political unrest becomes the thrilling backdrop as Dr. Harper fights to save his life, and battle his way out of the ensuing drama. Was this a random act of violence against the Jewish state, or was it targeting the controversial scientist himself? Dr. Harper's journey becomes one of historical discovery and spiritual awakening as this lifelong skeptic is forced to accept the truth of his remarkable discoveries.

Luedke spent 15 years within the mainstream comic industry as a retailer, author and publisher, before focusing his efforts in the arena of faith-based graphic novels. This skeptic of 41 years went though a personal conversion to the Christian faith, which lends metaphoric similarities to the main character in "Acts of the Spirit." Geared towards the teen to young adult reader, his books are also creating a buzz with mature counterparts, as well as comic book and graphic novel enthusiasts. Recent appearances on national TV talk shows and news broadcasts prove that Luedke is a main player in revolutionizing the most popular literary genre outside the United States.

Robert James Luedke currently lives with his wife and two children just outside Dallas, TX and founded Head Press Publishing in 1995. After his conversion to the Christian faith in 1999, he rerouted his creative efforts towards the faith-based graphic novel genre, with his Eye Witness trilogy. In addition to his art and publishing work, Luedke travels the country giving his testimony and speaking to youth groups. "Eye Witness: Acts of the Spirit" (ISBN 0975892428) can be purchased at book retailers nationwide, or online at: http://www.HEADPRESS.info.
