Divali and Govardhan Pooja to be Celebrated at Barsana Dham

Divali and Govardhan Pooja to be Celebrated at Barsana Dham

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 17, 2009

Just as Ayodhya was overflowing with lights to welcome Bhagwan Ram back from 14 years of exile, the Temple at Barsana Dham will be glittering with thousands of multicolored lights inside and outside during the Divali festival.

The celebration, held on Saturday, October 17th from 5 pm to midnight, begins with a delicious dinner prasad. Temple tours will be offered at 6 & 7:00pm.

At 7:30 pm the Temple program will begin and feature the "lighting the light" ceremony where State representatives and prominent community leaders will take part. The evening continues with kirtan, a talk by Prabhakari Devi, sanyasi pracharak, and recorded messages from Barsana Dham's Founders, Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj and H.D. Swami Prakashanand Saraswati, concluding with arti.

A grand fireworks display will be held outdoors beginning at 9:00pm, followed by the live music of Sur Sangam of Hurst, TX to accompany the ras garba, which will go on until midnight.

Stalls of chai, sweets and snacks will be available throughout the evening. Bring your own garba sticks or rent some of ours.

Govardhan Pooja will be celebrated the following day on Sunday, October 18th at 11:00 am. Program will include parikrama of Govardhan Hill and kirtans rejoicing Giriraj Maharaj. Bhog offerings are welcome.

Founded in 1990 by H. D. Swami Prakashanand Saraswati, Barsana Dham serves as a national center of the Hindu faith in the United States, and its Shree Raseshwari Radha Rani Temple is one of the largest Hindu temples in North America. With more than 1,200 members, Barsana Dham is active in a number of local and global charitable activities including housing rehabilitation work in Central Texas, flood relief efforts for India, and the ongoing support of charitable hospital operations overseas.
