Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 15, 2010

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Ralph Bostic, HUD’s Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research, Timothy Brick, Chairman of the Metropolitan Water District, will address an invite-only crowd at the Building Sustainable Cities Through Green Innovation event co-hosted by OnGreen and the USC Energy Institute and supported by CleanTech LA on November 16th.

The event will bring together thirty venture capitalist and private equity firms with innovative green entrepreneurs, corporations as well as government agencies and non profits as they explore cross-sector collaborations in green tech research and development opportunities in Los Angeles.

OnGreen is the global clearinghouse for clean tech investment. CleanTech LA (CTLA) is a partnership of leading institutions to help grow LA’s economy through clean tech investment and research. USC Energy Institute leads USC’s efforts to develop clean and renewable energy.

The event will showcase five innovative technology start-ups from OnGreen’s community: Enova Water, Enviro Energies, Enovative Kontrol Systems, Cyber-Rain and Green Wave Energy, as well as an emerging transportation technology from LA-based Kinetic Traction Systems, and a waste-to-energy technology from Dr. Ken Nealson of USC.

Through CleanTech LA, Los Angeles has positioned itself to be a world leader in green technology, and events like Sustainable Cities combine the public and private ingredients necessary to catalyze that kind of economic growth. In addition to remarks from Mayor Villaraigosa and Assistant Secretary Bostic, the program includes representatives from the U.S. Navy and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

OnGreen founder Nikhil R. Jain will debut the site’s new Patent Exchange, where universities and companies can find buyers and partners for their intellectual property. “OnGreen, CTLA and the USC Energy Institute are dedicated to driving money and connections to the best green technologies,” says Jain.

Mark Bernstein, Managing Director of the USC Energy Institute, adds that, “the future of urban centers like LA depends on new green technologies – for jobs and for improving the quality of life in our cities. Through CleanTech LA, Los Angeles has clearly emerged as the lead in clean tech and we look forward to this and other events to catalyze that growth and add new faces to our coalition.”

The reception will be held at the newly unveiled Moreton Fig Restaurant and Lounge, a vibrant space located in USC’s new LEED-certified building which focuses on farm to table cuisine. Sponsors for the event include Southern California Edison, Metropolitan Water District, Rentech, Kinetic Traction Systems, MWW Group, Stradling, Chevron Energy Solutions, Jones Lang Lasalle, Deloitte and Greenworks Studio.
