Literary Publisher Abandons Books to Produce Video Web-Series With Success

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 17, 2011

Rattapallax magazine launches VERSE: A POETIC MURDER MYSTERY on KoldCast.TV starring spoken-word poets Jon Sands, Bob Holman, Taylor Mead, Angel Nafis and others. Shot using the new Canon 5d digital camera in full HD, the series is about a young poet who discovers a lost manuscript, and is drawn into the New York City literary world with this, the only key to an unsolved, 30-year-old murder. Producer and publisher Ram Devineni of Rattapallax commented, "I am hoping this new video web-series will get viewers interested in reading more poetry." He adds that "in the future more people will be reading poetry and literature online and on mobile devices like the Kindle and iPad and integrating video interactively that will add to their experience."

Rattapallax magazine has been printing books and magazines for over ten years, but recently shifted online because of the increased number of people who feel comfortable reading and viewing literary content there. Bob Holman, who won three Emmys producing poetry shorts for WNYC-TV and founded the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City, said, "you no longer need huge budgets or tons of people to produce high quality shows. The technology and the platforms to reach people are all out there." Holman, who was one of the first moderators on, added, "it’s amazing to see writers and poets use video to bring attention to their work."

Spoken-word poet Jon Sands, whose first full collection of poems, titled The New Clean, will be available in bookstores nationwide this Spring with Write Bloody Press, said, “I love that it’s a new venue to tell an excellent story through the lens of a genre (poetry) that generally flies a bit under the mainstream radar.”

The series is available on KoldCast.TV, which has become the premiere on-demand, next-generation television network focused exclusively on high quality episodic, series-based programming created by independent producers. KoldCast TV's current programming slate carries over 200 unique Web programs. Verse is created and directed by Ram Devineni based on a script by Susan Brennan. The soundtrack (which has such a life of its own that it ultimately serves as its own character) is from the music of Shira E. & the Tiny Tornadoes.

Rattapallax is releasing a new episode every week and can be viewed at and on KoldCast.TV site at
